In March 1984, President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, worked with Habitat for Humanity in Americus, Georgia. They quickly realized that Habitat’s mission closely aligned with their values, and a partnership was formed. Just a few months later, in September of that same year, the Carters led a Habitat for Humanity work group to New York, serving 19 families in need of safe, affordable housing. That was the inaugural Carter Work Project. In addition to building 180 homes in Canada, President and Mrs. Carter helped raise awareness of the critical need for decent and affordable housing around the world. They have been an inspiration to many, helping to build, renovate and repair over 4,000 Habitat homes in 14 countries since 1984. President Carter’s legacy will continue to serve as an inspiration to all of us and to generations to come. #HonoringCarter habitat.ca Habitat for Humanity Canada | President Jimmy Carter 1924-2024 Habitat for Humanity Canada, along with our global Habitat partners, friends, and colleagues, are mourning the loss of President Jimmy Carter, a man whose legacy is an inspiration to us all.

Today is National Housing Day. On this day, we share Canadians’ deep concerns that the ability to buy a home has become so far out of reach that many believe it is impossible. Eight-in-ten Canadians say that buying a home now feels like a “luxury.” Please take a moment to read the results of Habitat for Humanity's third annual Affordable Housing Survey (link below). It is clear that creating pathways to affordable homeownership has never been more important. HabitatNB remains committed to advocating with governments for solutions to today’s housing challenges, increasing its impact for affordable housing in New Brunswick, building more homes and helping many more families achieve affordable homeownership. Together, we can build homes - and hope - for families in need of safe, affordable housing. We would welcome your support. We have had some incredible volunteer support in recent days from Liberty Utilities during their Hearts & Hands week. This wonderful community effort coordinated by Liberty - New Brunswick saw volunteer groups assisting in Shediac, Saint John and Fredericton! In Shediac, the hard working team constructed interior basement walls of our duplex being built there. The great group in Saint John erected the exterior walls of our brand new bungalow just getting underway, and the fearless team in Fredericton tackled the daunting task of organizing our storage trailer and building much-needed shelving at our Fredericton ReStore. An incredible job was done by each and every one! We are so very appreciative of all of these helping hands and are thankful for the ongoing support of Liberty - New Brunswick. It is support such as this that allows us to build homes - and hope - for families in need of safe, affordable housing throughout our province.

New homes arriving in Shediac! Friday was an exciting day for Habitat for Humanity New Brunswick and the Town of Shediac, as we watched the sections of this modular-built duplex arrive! Interior work will be completed over the next few months. We expect these to be ready for two new families sometime this Fall (the family selection process is already well underway). We send a HUGE “Thank You” to the Town of Shediac for generously donating the land for this home to HabitatNB. Acquisition of suitable land is often one of the biggest hurdles that we face when planning home builds. About this project: - Two-story modular-built duplex (two units) - Each unit has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and a full basement (with potential for two more bedrooms and a second bathroom, dependent on size of family) - 1232 sq ft (616 sq ft per floor) - Homes will exceed building code requirements for insulation, air sealing, and other energy efficiency measures to ensure the families have a safe and affordable home for the long-term. Although applications for this duplex are now closed, please visit our website for more information on HabitatNB’s mortgage model and our eligibility requirements. Once we have new HabitatNB home builds to announce, we will update our website with further details and open up applications. https://habitatnb.ca Ville de Shediac / Town of Shediac Habitat for Humanity ReStore Moncton
