March is Francophonie Month. Francophonie Month is a time to commemorate the French language and diverse Francophone cultures in our region and across the world. Throughout March, take time to learn more about the valuable role Francophones play in contributing to the cultural, social and economic development within our region and across the province. As a part of Francophonie Month celebrations, International Francophonie Day is observed annually on March 20. In January and February 2025, the municipality held French language community engagement to gather feedback from the Acadian and Francophone community on the French Language Services Strategy, including completed action items and potential revisions to better meet the community’s needs. Join us at the municipal opening ceremony on March 3 at 9 a.m., at the Grand Parade. Last year, Regional Council approved a framework for managing our municipality's watersheds. We're seeking your input to help shape management plans for the Dartmouth Lakes and Nine Mile River watersheds. Your feedback will help guide the objectives of the plan. Watersheds are interconnected systems that are best taken care of as a entire unit, because anything that happens upstream in a watershed tends to have impacts downstream. To learn more about watershed management and complete a survey on plans for Dartmouth Lakes and Nine Mile River, head to halifax.ca/watershed.

Protecting our watersheds, those special places where water drains to a common outlet, is incredibly important. This is why the municipality is developing management plans for the Nine Mile River and Dartmouth Lakes watersheds. You can help us safeguard the health of our lakes, streams, forests and meadows. We're seeking applications from residents that live or work in these watersheds to join steering committees that will guide the creation of our management plans. Preference will be given to applicants that have professional or volunteer experience in water-related fields, but other opportunities to contribute and give feedback will also be available. Head to halifax.ca/watershed for more information on the watershed management steering committees and how to apply.
