The work of anti-racism is seldom met with praise; when you are attempting to shift and dismantle systems, more often, what is felt is the weight of the system pushing back. I am humbled and honoured to be recognized by Harmony Movement at the Educators Anti-Racism Conference for Leadership in Education. The spaces between classrooms and home are integral to the success of young people. Events such as Black Excellence Symposiums, Student Equity Symposiums, GSA Socials, Iftar Nights, and Culture Nights allow students to see themselves affirmed and valued. The opportunities to create, support, and bear witness to these sacred spaces are among the many blessings of being an educator and the reasons I am called to my vocation. To my own communities who continue to uplift me - my heart is full of gratitude for your constant presence in my life and work. To my former students, the ones I taught and the ones who taught me - you are loved, you are worthy, you will change this world for the better.
