In new research with OPTrust, University Pension Plan Ontario and The Conference Board of Canada, findings show that defined benefit pension payments give retirees confidence about having a steady income, which in turn, drives consumer spending. This supports local businesses, drives growth and sustains over 250,000 full-time jobs in Ontario, generating $16 billion in wages and over $34 billion in Ontario’s GDP. Pensions help Canadians secure their future. That’s why we support Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) in their upcoming Pension Awareness Day on February 20. To kick-off #BlackHistoryMonth, HOOPP was pleased to host Resistance & Joy, a virtual learning session led by CultureAlly DEI facilitators Ogho Ikhalo and Taliesin Ho-Devine. This interactive event explored the transformative power of Black Resistance and Black Joy, highlighting the resilience, achievements and contributions of Black communities. Ogho and Taliesin guided employees through Canada’s history of enslavement and segregation, the impacts of these systems today and how we can take meaningful action through anti-racism and allyship. We’d like to thank CultureAlly for leading this important session and our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion team and Learning & Development team for organizing the event. We look forward to continuing these conversations throughout the year.

HOOPP’s Campus Recruitment team, in collaboration with our Out and Proud employee resource group, was proud to participate in the Q+ at Queen's University Conference, an event dedicated to empowering 2SLGBTQ+ students through professional development, networking and mentorship. The event’s theme of Queer Excellence focused on celebrating achievements within the 2SLGBTQ+ community. It was a great opportunity to connect with students, and help them explore potential career paths and build connections with peers and industry professionals. Thank you to Q+ at Queen's University team for hosting, and to HOOPP’s Andrew Peng Wang and Natasha Reichen, for representing our team and engaging with the students.

Our wellness program, Thrive, is helping our employees start the year on a healthy note! Recently, Thrive hosted our second complimentary biometrics screening clinic, facilitated by Lifemark Health Group. Attendees had the opportunity to receive baseline information about their health through non-invasive tests, followed by brief consultations with the on-site nurses. Thank you to our Benefits team for organizing this event and kudos to our employees for prioritizing their wellness.
