We are so proud to partner with Lionhearts Inc. during world junior hockey championships and all year long. Stephen La Salle you have been such a tremendous partner.
Feeling appropriate to end the year sharing one of the projects that's been a highlight of the year, my first year working in food security, it's been an immense pleasure to work so closely and collaborate with Ottawa Tourism on food recovery from hospitality partners and donors. The team behind the event food recovery program has been immensely supportive of connecting excess food from events in a meaningful and on going way, I'm so appreciative of everything from Mary Sayewich, PMP and Phil Nowotny that have led and nurtured this program. Collaborating across food recovery to get that food to front lines like at Shepherds of Good Hope has been so impactful, working closely with Peter Gareau to create meals from that recovery has been such an encouraging force that fuels us to make that impact. A huge thank you to our hospitality donor partners Hyatt Place Ottawa West, My Catering Group, Levy Restaurants at TD Place, Aramark at Canadian Tire Centre, and Brookstreet Hotel that are paired with us at Lionhearts in the Event Food Recovery Program for all of the food recovery in 2024, it’s been our pleasure to distribute it to front line organizations. So its appropriate to close out this year with this moment in food recovery created from Ottawa Tourism's partnership with Hockey Canada on hosting the World Juniors here in Ottawa, and our ability at Lionhearts Inc. to get that food recovery to front line partners like at Shepherds. Thank you to the many team members across many partners to bring these opportunities to life! And thank you to our Lionhearts team and volunteers for jumping in on this project! If you're interested in getting in on this recovery action at the World Juniors, Lionhearts is hosting the Recycling Centre at Hockey Canada's Fan Fest where we're collecting: non-perishable food and hygiene items, used sporting equipment and e-waste. https://lnkd.in/gStZUnDQ

Do you have special plans for New Year's Eve tonight? There is lots happening around Ottawa but please be sure to plan ahead to be safe. There are lots of options available for you to get home. Ottawa Transit is free tonight after 6pm courtesy of Safer Roads Ottawa and MADD Ottawa. If that doesn't work for you, arrange for a designated driver, take a cab, Uber or Lyft. There is even a service that will drive you home in your own car called Responsible Ottawa. (613-248-0444). Finally, you can always rent a hotel room within walking distance of your venue. We truly want you to have a happy and prosperious 2025 and it starts by making the right choice in 2024. Sincerely, Your friends at the Hyatt Place Ottawa West.

As 2024 comes to a close, we’re filled with gratitude for the difference we’ve made together this year. We're committed to giving back and protecting the planet. Here are just a few things we achieved. 💧 33,573 bottles saved through our Fill it Forward refill stations since installing—keeping waste out of landfills. ☀️ 44,000 kWh of energy generated by our solar panels—powering our hotel sustainably and reducing our carbon footprint. 🍎 855 meals donated to La Tablée des Chefs—supporting local families in need. 🍯 Over 200 jars of honey produced from our rooftop beehives—supporting pollination and bringing local sweetness to our community. 🌲 Saved over 35,000 trees, 1.2M lbs. Air Pollution, 14M gallons of Water, 6.3 cubic yards of Landfill, 782 gallons of Gasoline and over 8.3M kWh with paperless night audit packs—embracing sustainability in operations. Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we’ve made an incredible impact, and we can’t wait to achieve even more in 2025! Which of these accomplishments inspires you most? We are so excited to launch our Fill it Forward QR code program at our water refill stations around the hotel. Now every time you refill, a donation will be made to great programs, including reforestation projects and clean drinking water initiatives. Be sure to pack your bottle next stay, or you can buy one from us as well. This station has saved over 30,000 bottles from the landfill so far. #sustainabilitymatters
