The The World Bank Inspection Panel is an independent complaints mechanism for people and communities who believe that they have been, or are likely to be, adversely affected by a The World Bank-funded project. It is an impartial fact-finding body that reports directly to the World Bank Board of Directors. The Panel works to give affected people a greater voice in activities supported by the World Bank that affect their rights and interests, and foster redress when warranted. In this video, ISID Professor of Practice Bart Édes interviews the outgoing Panel Chair, Mark Goldsmith, who reflects on the role of this important accountability function and his contribution to its operation over the past year. In the below policy paper published by the Payne Institute for Public Policy, ISID's Professor of Practice Jamal Saghir states that many years of observations in developing and emerging countries make it very clear that no country can achieve sustained increases in GDP without spending on infrastructure. This policy paper focuses in particular on small and medium projects in infrastructure projects and discusses policy implications. A superb panel yesterday on on career development at McGill University with students in International Development My personal message was it is a tough market and breaking into career in development requires Passion, Persistence and Patience coupled with a lot of luck .But there are things students can do to prepare and increase their chances…including for instance, cultivate specific sectoral expertise and knowledge through their course work; learn specific skills ; develop and nurture good writing skills; learn to make sharp and focused presentations; find volunteer positions, internships and keep abreast of current events and news in their country/region and the World.

ISID Professor of Practice Bart Édes is the author of a chapter in the newly published Routledge Handbook of Global and Digital Governance Crossroads.
