Despite extremely low recurrence rates after endoscopic treatment for T1 esophageal adenocarcinoma, patients may experience fear of cancer recurrence. This study by Wilda Rosmolen found that: ⬆️ fear of recurrence is increased when cancer was diagnosed in asymptomatic patients, if patients develop physical symptoms, and if they have experience with cancer in close relations ⬇️ fear of recurrence is reduced by endoscopic follow-up and comprehensible information about risk of cancer recurrence and possible symptoms Our responsibility does not end after our endoscopic tricks! Talk to your patients about fear of cancer recurrence, inform them well and offer help if needed. In our clinic, our Nurse Practitioners Wilda Rosmolen and Nancy Lardenoije-vdr Hoorn are indispensable for this. Although not often used in our field, qualitative studies help us understand the outcomes of our quantitative studies. Thank you Diseases of the Esophagus Journal and reviewers for recognizing the relevance of this study! MDL Amsterdam UMC Open access to the paper: https://lnkd.in/ek-CYJsZ
