Enabling youth in Canada to own their mental health journeys.

About us

Jack.org works with youth across Canada to teach mental health fundamentals, reduce stigma, create peer-to-peer connections, and create communities of belonging to help young people own their mental health journeys. Suicide is still the leading health-related cause of death for youth in Canada. Countless young people live with ’that feeling’ of anxiety, stress, despair, or loneliness. It’s a crisis that’s hard to see and harder to live through. With our help, across classrooms and campuses, in communities across the country, youth are focussing on prevention by taking charge of their mental health, and looking out for their peers.

Two weeks ago we premiered the first look of our new brand video to some of our Jack.org community and partners. 🎬🍿 We also hosted a panel with three Jack.org Network Representatives who generously shared their first-hand, lived experiences and hopes for the future as youth on their own mental health journeys - keeping us connected to our mission. 🤝 The video, and supporting key visuals all stem from the new Jack.org platform ‘We’ll Own That Feeling’. ‘We will’ as a determined partner to young people across Canada, enable youth through our programs, community building & advocacy to have agency or ‘ownership’, over ‘that feeling’ - and for us, that feeling is shorthand for all the complex & often overwhelming emotions, young people are experiencing along their mental health journeys. With 4 in 10 youth in Canada saying that their mental health symptoms impact their everyday lives and over half of these young people not getting the support they need, there’s no more pressing health challenge young people are facing than the mental health emergency. 💙 Thank you to everyone who made the event so special, Sandra Hanington, M.S.C. and Vivien Glencross for welcoming everyone so warmly and recommitting to our strategy. Thank you to Samarah M., Dzhafar Kabidenov, and Leyan Al-Mashita for being such brilliant panel members, Leilah Ambrose for her brilliant creative strategy across the project, and for speaking so beautifully about Cossette’s connection to our work. 🙏 Then as always a big thank you to the brilliant team of Emily McDonald, Danielle Kinahan, Sarah Gonyea and Kim G. for all their support and hard work bringing the vision to life, as well as Nicole Hunter Campbell for the 📸. We’re gearing up for our public campaign launch in January, follow along for more! 🗓️

  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people in Canada. Before joining Jack.org, Anna wasn’t comfortable talking about her mental health. Our programs inspired her to open up and talk about *that feeling* of loneliness, anxiety, and hopelessness that so many youth encounter. That feeling in youth is inevitable, but what’s not okay is when these struggles turn into distress without support. Jack.org is flipping the script on this reality, ensuring young people have the knowledge, community, and tools they need to have agency over their mental health and help their peers do it too. We’re teaching young people how to get support when they need it. This #GivingTuesday support Jack.org, to show youth they’re not alone.

  • Putting youth front and centre is at the heart of what we do. Countless young people in Canada live with feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, or loneliness every day. It’s a crisis that’s hard to see, and harder to address. Leading up to #GivingTuesday, we’d like to introduce you to Anna. She’s been involved with Jack.org’s programs since high school and shares how her involvement in Jack Talks and Jack Chapters led to a breakthrough in her mental health journey. Visit jack.org to learn more about supporting youth mental health in Canada.

  • Youth mental health in Canada is in a state of emergency: 👉 Only 20% of the ~1.25 million youth who need mental health support are actually getting it.  👉 Only *6 cents* of every government dollar spent on healthcare supports mental health.  👉 There’s an alarming lack of affirming, intersectional, and culturally-relevant services for youth who identify as 2SLGBTQ+ and/or Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC). The way forward? Investments in mental health care and education. Educating young people on mental health reduces stigma and teaches them how to get help. This is crucial for making sure a struggle doesn’t turn into a crisis. Thank you to our partners at Bell Let's Talk and Mental Health Research Canada for their amazing work with "A Generation At Risk" [https://lnkd.in/gs9PCnWv] – a landmark report on today’s challenges and solutions in youth mental health. We look forward to our continued collaboration – alongside Integrated Youth Services, Kids Help Phone, National Association of Friendship Centres | Association nationale des Centres d'amitié, Strongest Families Institute and Fondation Jeunes En Tête – to ensure mental health prevention and care services are prioritized in every province and territory. 💙
