Last Saturday, I had the incredible honor of attending the 2024 Ontario Jiu Ding Scholarship Award Gala as one of this year’s recipients! This recognition means so much to me because it represents a celebration of Chinese Canadian leaders who are making an impact in their communities—a conversation that’s incredibly close to my heart. I was so inspired by the other recipients, who have all made meaningful contributions in their own ways. Hearing their stories and seeing the different paths they’ve taken to create change reminded me that leadership comes in so many forms—and that’s exactly what makes it so powerful. Thank you to the Jiu Ding Scholarship Foundation and to everyone involved (Ashleigh Au Claire Zhang + team), including all the sponsors who made this possible! I'm also incredibly grateful for my friends, family, and mentors who’ve supported me through every step of this leadership journey, especially at times when I've doubted myself. Your belief in me has meant the world. I still have so much to learn, and I’m excited to keep growing and find new ways to give back to our community. :)

On Saturday, November 23, the Jiu Ding Scholarship Foundation held its second Annual Scholarship Award and Charity Gala at Toronto’s OMNI King Edward Hotel. In the company of 200 attendees including prominent leaders of the local business and Chinese community, six $6000 scholarships were awarded to outstanding university students with the demonstrated potential to become the next generation of Chinese Canadian leaders. The Jiu Ding Foundation proudly celebrates the six Ontario recipients of the 2024 Jiu Ding Scholarship Awards: Arts Award: Sophie Luo, Western University Ivey Business School, Business and Psychology Humanities Award: Shiri Yeung, University of Toronto, Sociology and Urban Studies Business Award: Gloria Yang, University of Toronto Rotman Commerce, Economics Science Award: Ray W., Western University Ivey Business School, Honours Business Administration and Computer Science Law Award: Shirley Li, University of Toronto Faculty of Law, Juris Doctor Medicine Award: Heather Jianbo Zhao, University of Toronto, Doctor of Medicine Each of these students has accomplished so much already as on-campus leaders and pro-active innovators and problem solvers in their fields. They have garnered internship and professional experiences, championed social and cultural causes, successfully competed in various competitions, published research, raised funds for public good, and proven their dedication to make a positive impact on their communities. 🎓✨ Introducing Shiri Yeung, 2024 Ontario Jiu Ding Scholarship Recipient! At just 15, Shiri Yeung immigrated to Canada alone from Hong Kong, demonstrating incredible resilience and drive. Now a fourth-year Sociology and Urban Planning student at UofT, she’s a Laidlaw Scholar, Muldoon-Mosaic Award Recipient, and Presidential Scholarship Candidate with a stellar 3.9/4.0 GPA. She has worked on the product, Ontario.ca, at the Ontario Ministry of Public and Business Services Delivery and recently completed a summer internship as a management consultant at Accenture, a firm she is planning to return to upon graduation. Beyond academics and professional work, she is currently the President of UofT AI, the largest undergraduate student club in North America with over 500 active members, which hosts hackathons, conferences, and community events with over $70k of industry sponsorship annually. Shiri’s passion for positive social impact and digital inclusion inspires us all. 🌟

🎓✨ Introducing Shirley Li: 2024 Ontario Jiu Ding Scholarship Recipient! Shirley Li, a first-year Juris Doctor student at UofT Faculty of Law and a Rotman Commerce graduate, is passionate about corporate litigation, focusing on antitrust, M&A, and ESG. Guided by Benjamin Franklin's philosophy, “Doing Well by Doing Good,” she seeks to align business success with social impact.  In undergrad, Shirley raised over $2,000 for blood disease treatments as VP Finance of UofT Hemoglobal, collaborating with 12+ corporate sponsors. At Scotiabank, she advanced newcomer banking projects, promoting inclusive financial solutions. As a Pharmacy Assistant at Shoppers Drug Mart, Shirley supported vaccine rollouts and earned the prestigious 2021 President’s Award. Beyond her professional pursuits, Shirley enjoys Pilates, drawing, and exploring Dr. Wayne W. Dyer’s philosophies. 🌟  #JiuDingScholarship #YoungLeaders #CommunityExcellence
