The Kadant Carmanah Lily Pad Chipper utilizes many small individual knives arranged in a spiral around its drum surface, with the cutting edge parallel to the wood grain. With this type of cut, the energy required to produce a given volume of chips is up to one-half of what is normally required by conventional disc chippers, with the added benefit of a significantly lower noise level.

The performance of your Kadant Carmanah SmartDISC Strander relies on the secure and accurate fastening of the carriers and clamps. We recommend that all carrier and clamp fasteners are replaced every 6 months as part of a preventative maintenance routine. To help OSB mills plan for their next shutdown, Kadant Carmanah offers a Carrier Rebuild Kit for all 24-knife and 30-knife SmartDISC Stranders, which includes anti-corrosion coating, anti-scuff paste, fasteners, structural washers, threaded inserts, spring pins, clamp and retainer screws, and hardened clamp alignment pins. 

Featuring a 117-inch diameter disc, Kadant Carmanah’s Spout Over Shaft (SOS) Chipper is designed to produce high quality chips from whole logs. The position of the infeed spout and the unique cutting action force the logs towards the inside diameter of the disc, resulting in increased log stability, reduced knife velocity, and improved chip quality. 

To help promote machine safety while minimizing potential downtime, Kadant Carmanah offers a comprehensive Inspection Program for every SmartRING and SmartDISC strander in operation around the world. Our experienced and highly-trained technical service reps complete the inspections on-site, where they also observe cycle times, the pocket loading and infeed areas, routine knife change procedures, and strand quality samples. 

A Kadant Carmanah Batch Feeder is ready to ship to an OSB mill in Eastern Canada. Consisting of three major sections – a log loading area and two pusher mechanisms – the Batch Feeder is part of an integrated system which allows for our SmartRING Strander to operate at optimum production capacity for cut-to-length logs.
