🌎✊ 16 Days of Activism: la RED brings together women defenders in Latin America for Feminist Climate Justice School “Environmental and climate justice will be feminist, or it will not be.” During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Latin American Network of Women Defenders of Social and Environmental Rights (la RED) convened their Feminist Climate Justice School, bringing together 40+ women from countries in Central and South America. These courageous women denounced: ❌ False solutions to the climate crisis ❌ Corporate pacts for the energy transition that expand extractivism They also honoured the lives of women defenders of Mother Earth who face persecution, criminalization, and death for protecting their territories. On November 25, they celebrated life, community, and the resilience of women fighting for justice. 💜 STOP the killing of women defenders in Latin America. 💜 Justice for defenders of Mother Earth. la RED is a feminist network working with women environmental and social rights defenders in many countries in Central and South America. In recent years, their work has centred on the gendered impacts of extractivist mining companies in Latin America. Their research and activism on gender-based violence and gendered impacts are critical, feminist and unique in the region. For over 15 years, KAIROS has supported la RED’s critical feminist activism at the intersections of gender, climate change, and extractivism—and we will continue to stand with them. #16DaysOfActivism #16Days #FeministClimateJustice #EnvironmentalJustice #EndGBV #WomenDefenders #NiUnaMenos #NoExcuse

📣 Empowering Palestinian citizen journalists needed more than ever to expose rise in gender-based violence For years, B’Tselem has helped Palestinian volunteers empower themselves to become video activists and citizen journalists, equipping them to document life under occupation. These volunteers provide vital first-hand accounts of the daily human rights violations faced by Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. KAIROS supports this work, particularly its efforts to document and protect the integrity of the information and the journalists who are deeply committed to securing peace and human rights for Palestinians. Now, as the war on Gaza and escalating violence in the West Bank have led to a rise in gender-based violence, B’Tselem’s work to document and expose these injustices is more critical than ever. During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we invite you to read B’Tselem’s blog: 👉 The world must stop the ethnic cleansing of northern Gaza - https://lnkd.in/eKw6pi2P By standing together, we can amplify the voices of those fighting for peace, dignity, and justice. Thank you for your commitment to supporting this critical work. (Due to the sensitivity of the information, we are sharing B’Tselem’s official logo instead of images.) #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBV #HumanRights #PeaceForPalestine #NoExcuse

✨ Empowering Indigenous Women in Sololá, Guatemala ✨ Since 2021, KAIROS has been a proud partner of Kaji Ajpop, an Indigenous Maya Kaqchikel organization based in the small town of El Tablón, Sololá. This dynamic organization helps Maya Kaqchikel women empower themselves by adapting and legalizing women's communal councils in their communities. Through discussions, training, and workshops on women’s rights, political participation, elections, and the vital role of Mayan women in their communities, Kaji Ajpop is reviving a legacy that has been eroded by colonization. These extraordinary women—skilled loom weavers and embroiderers—rely on the local tourist market to support their families. Their work not only preserves Mayan traditions but also strengthens their economic autonomy. 🌟 During the 16 Days of Activism, leading up to November 25, Kaji Ajpop hosted a workshop on economic autonomy and empowerment strategies. This event brought together elected leaders and members of the Women’s Councils to exchange ideas and develop tools for lasting change. We are inspired by their resilience and determination to build a better future for their communities. 💪💜 #EmpoweringWomen #IndigenousRights #16DaysOfActivism #16Days #EndGBV #NoExcuse

Together, we envision a society where every woman and girl lives free from violence. ✨ Wi’am’s 16 Days of Activism: 🟠 Workshops and Film Screenings on the Intersectionality of War and GBV, featuring powerful storytelling. 🟠 Legal Reform Campaigns to educate victims and survivors of GBV about their rights. 🟠 Digital Activism Space to amplify Palestinian women’s voices, share experiences, and mobilize international solidarity through social media campaigns using hashtags like #PalestinianWomenForJustice and #EndGBVInPalestine. 🌟 Standing Strong Against Gender-Based Violence 🌟 The Organización Femenina Popular (OFP) has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for over 50 years, tirelessly advocating for women's rights and justice in Colombia in the face of gender-based violence (GBV). From their groundbreaking Circles of Protection, which rebuild safety networks and prevent the escalation of GBV, to their Purple Tents, spreading education and awareness about its deadly consequences, OFP remains unwavering in its mission to create a safer world for women. This commitment extends to Colombian and immigrant women, including those forcibly displaced in the Magdalena Medio region, empowering them through education, economic training, and advocacy. 💜 ✨ #JornadaPúrpura - November 25✨ On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the OFP mobilized their Purple Tents across 13 key locations to: Raise Awareness of GBV and feminicides. Denounce Human Rights Violations. Stand united as social organizations, women's groups, unions, and community institutions. Let’s amplify the voices of survivors and demand justice. 📣 Join the Movement: 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 📣 From November 25 to December 10, the South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) is standing strong in the fight to end gender-based violence under the national theme: “Ending violence against women and girls in South Sudan.” Gender-based violence (GBV) is one of the most pressing issues in our country, with women and girls facing unimaginable challenges, including rape used as a weapon of war, abduction, forced sexual exploitation, and workplace-based violence. While some survivors have accessed medical care, psychosocial support, and justice, much more needs to be done. 💡 What SSCC is advocating for during the campaign: Safe Spaces: Advocating for resources to establish safe homes for GBV survivors. Inclusive Support: Strengthening a multi-sectoral approach to protect and respond to survivors, including people with disabilities. Awareness Creation: Spreading awareness on GBV prevention, response, and available services for survivors. Policy Change: Calling on the government to pass the Anti-GBV Bill. Together, we can create a South Sudan where every woman and girl is safe, respected, and empowered to thrive. Let’s take action during these 16 Days of Activism and beyond. #EndGBV #16DaysOfActivism #SouthSudan #SafeSpacesForSurvivors #NoExcuse 👉 Share this post to amplify the message and support the movement!

With sorrow and utmost respect, KAIROS acknowledges the passing of the Honorable Murray Sinclair. We send our deepest condolences to his family members. Murray Sinclair was a man of vision, dignity and kindness. Justice and wisdom shone through his leadership as Chief Commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and throughout his distinguished career as a judge and senator. We will forever carry his wisdom and move forward with his legacy that helped shape us. He has showed us that the path of truth and reconciliation is not an easy one and requires continual re-commitment. However, there is a path and he has given us a map. We are forever grateful for his wisdom and leadership, which have shaped us and will continue to do so. May we continue on this path in a good way and nurture the seeds he has planted. We wish you good journey, Mazina Giizhik (the One Who Speaks of Pictures in the Sky). 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gywqyFAT
