Does Fat Content in Milk Replacer Matter? Our Research Says YES! At the Mapleview Agri Research Facility, we conducted a 13-week trial with 128 calves to explore the effects of milk replacers with 17%, 24%, and 31% fat levels. Calf Diarrhea: Early Signs & Prevention 🚨We’ve completed research trials at our facility that show most calf diarrhea incidents happen between 3-14 days of life. Here are key signs to watch for and prevention tips. Our products are formulated with the most recent scientific information with research completed at our facility. 🔻 A recent trial at the Mapleview facility, in partnership with Dr. Joao Costa from the University of Vermont, studied the impact of increasing medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) in milk replacer on pre-weaned Holstein calves. The two groups of 64 calves received milk replacers with either 20% or 30% MCFAs derived from coconut oil. 🐄 Key findings from 128 calves: • 30% MCFA group: Average daily weight gain of 2.69 lbs vs. 2.51 lbs in the 20% group (P = 0.014) • Higher grain intake: 0.44 lbs more daily from the 30% MCFA group (P = 0.009) • No significant health differences These results show that higher MCFA levels improve growth and intake. As a result of this research, Mapleview has updated its product formulations to incorporate higher levels of MCFAs, aiming to optimize growth and performance through improved fat formulation techniques. ‼️ With Mapleview, farmers are receiving products formulated with the most recent scientific information.
