At Mariner, we see Canada’s cybersecurity landscape changing fast in 2025. Our security experts stay current with emerging threats and are ready to help with privacy, offensive security, governance, risk, and compliance. According to Statistics Canada, over 41,000 cybercrimes were reported in the first half of 2024, about 228 daily incidents, with fraud at 56%. Ransomware attacks have double since 2021, an estimated 26% annually! Healthcare is especially hard-hit, with one global study citing $10.1 million as the average breach cost. Phishing remains a prime threat, but it has grown more sophisticated: fake CAPTCHA pages can trick users into triggering malware. Meanwhile, many organizations still lack robust defenses with just 26% of Canadian businesses having formal cybersecurity policies. According to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, total reported fraud losses in 2023 exceeded $570 million, up from $531 million in 2022.
