Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA - APECA, states the following in her article "Atlantic Canada’s aerospace industry is soaring: here’s why we should all take notice" in today's The Hill Times: "In Nova Scotia, IMP Aerospace & Defence serves as a major contractor for both civilian and military sectors, providing top-tier maintenance, repair, and overhaul services. The Canso area is home to the emerging Spaceport Nova Scotia, positioned to become Canada’s first commercial spaceport capable of launching satellites into orbit. Developed by Maritime Launch Services, this project is expected to create hundreds of great jobs for the region and contribute substantially to the province’s economy. Halifax is also stepping up as a key player with the recent opening of NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA), which will help drive innovation and foster collaboration between NATO and the North American innovation ecosystem, including world-class academic institutions and startups in Atlantic Canada. ...It’s clear that aerospace is going to be a cornerstone of the East Coast’s economic landscape for many years to come. It’s not only creating good jobs here at home, but also strengthening Canada’s ability to defend its interests, and keep our people safe—and I can’t wait to see where it takes us. The wind is truly in our sails, or—in this case—beneath our wings." The Halifax International Security Forum HFX is dedicated to fostering strategic cooperation among the world’s democracies—a mission more critical than ever in today’s dynamic and complex global landscape. For Maritime Launch Services, HFX provides an invaluable platform to highlight the growing role of #space in ensuring #security and #resiliency. This weekend, we were honoured to meet with US Ambassador David Cohen United States Embassy Ottawa and Consulates in Canada and US Consul General Viki Limaye to discuss how Maritime Launch Services is shaping North America’s space future. Together, we reinforced the importance of building strong partnerships to advance innovation in the space sector. We also met with Defence Parliamentary Secretary Marie-France Lalonde to explore the vital role of domestic space launch infrastructure in enhancing Canada’s resiliency. Expanding Canada’s space capabilities strengthens our defense capacity, safeguards our sovereignty, and positions us as a leader in the evolving space economy. Department of National Defence/Ministère de la défense nationale We also had the privilege of meeting with Kirsten Hillman, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States. Our conversation focused on the critical Canada-U.S 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 space relationship and how joint efforts can bolster global market opportunities and address shared challenges in space exploration and security. Our efforts have always focused on bringing satellite launch capabilities to Canada. This partnership with Maritime Launch Services will help towards this goal by uniting the efforts of the only Canadian commercial spaceport with the leading launch vehicle manufacturer in Canada, bringing us one step closer to the first orbital launch from Canadian soil.
