Great day at Queen’s Park celebrating the Life Sciences industry along with colleagues, Medtech Canada and Life Sciences Ontario. Reinforced the value of a whole of government approach to enabling a vibrant sector to optimize the health, wealth and security of Ontarians. Great strides through a collaborative approach across parties and key stakeholders. #innovation #innovationadoption #virtuouscycle

  • Thanks to Jessica Thomson and David Jones of Health Canada for recently providing a technical briefing to the medtech community on Bill C-72, the Connected Care for Canadians Act. The webinar introduced Bill C-72, how it is aiming to improve access to health information in Canada and discussed its implications for patient safety and health care outcomes. Medtech innovators are ever increasingly developing digital health solutions, so this webinar was timely and insightful. Our association is also very supportive of increasing access to Canadian health care data to improve patient outcomes and to enhance the ability of medtech industry to support the needs of the Canadian health care system.

  • Most Canadian medtech companies rely on the U.S. market to help enable the growth of their businesses. We strongly urge Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and provincial leaders from across Canada to work with their counterparts in the U.S. to ensure that tariffs aren’t levied on Canadian medical technology products.

  • Phenomenal news today from our member company Roche Canada and Premier Doug Ford! Kudos to Roche for recognizing the substantial talent and opportunities for investment here, and to the government of Ontario for recognizing the importance of this sector. We're looking forward to seeing the positive impacts of this investment!

I was thrilled to join Roche Canada in Mississauga to announce their $130 million investment in a Global Informatics Hub that will support 250 good-paying jobs over five years. This hub, which is supported by $3.5 million in support from our Invest Ontario Fund, will reinforce Ontario’s position as a leader in life sciences and health-care innovation.

Traditional methods of closing surgical wounds requires follow-up care for dressing changes and removal of staples or sutures – putting an extra burden on both hospital staff and patients. #MohawkMedbuy’s patient-focused approach to procurement allows our Member hospitals to choose products like a novel wound closure system that eliminates those issues and leads to hundreds of fewer clinic visits a year. It also allows patients to shower sooner and, ultimately, remove the dressing themselves.   MMC works closely with Canadian hospitals to drive a resilient #HealthCare #SupplyChain centered on delivering the best possible care. AdvaMed’s MedTech Conference, which took place last month in Toronto, brought together our global medical technology community at a time when AI, robotics, wearable devices, telemedicine, and personalized medicine are accelerating. With over 40 countries represented, there was an energy that while the sector is driving cutting-edge innovation, it is only the beginning. During the conference, the Ontario government announced the next phase of its Life Sciences strategy. It’s investing $146 million to grow the province’s biomanufacturing and health sciences sector. I agree with Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Honorable Victor Fedeli that Phase 2 of the Ontario Life Sciences Strategy “Taking Life Sciences to the Next Level” will build on the incredible momentum ($5 billion invested and 5,000 jobs created in the sector) since the first phase was introduced and further nurture the environment needed for local and global companies to “grow and thrive.”: “Phase 2 will also include the launch of the new Health Innovation Pathway, designed to streamline and simplify access for health care organizations to adopt transformative technologies” Coming out of The MedTech Conference, I am inspired by the global innovation I saw and the Ontario provincial government’s commitment to driving sector growth. I believe Canada is poised more than ever to address many of the challenges we have historically faced in adopting new technologies, methods, and practices into our health system. This moment is an opportunity to further highlight the first two pillars of the Virtuous Cycle discussed in my last post and the importance of the crucial third pillar: Innovation Adoption. #MedTechCon #MedTechCanada
