  • Yale University’s Beinecke Library has been the center of an ever-evolving myth - one article refers to it as the “Killer Library.” However, the truth behind their fire suppression system is much less sinister.  As of 2021, the Beinecke Library relies on a chemical called ECARO-25, which works on the molecular level to suppress fires. The gas is non-corrosive and leaves behind no residue, further protecting rare books and manuscripts from damage. The "green" gas is safe for humans as it only temporarily dilutes the oxygen levels.
