  • The real joy of Christmas is found in the people we share it with, and the Melcor Christmas party is our chance to celebrate the incredible team that makes everything we do possible. This year’s festivities were full of heartwarming moments, impressive talents, and plenty of cheer. The formal celebration was filled with memorable moments. Pj & Susan led the evening as our MCs, introducing the evening's program with charm and wit. Their playful “Christmas Awards” were a highlight, with fun titles like: 🏆 Best Decorated Office - Kayla 🏆 Most Likely to Listen to Christmas Music in November - Lindsay 🏆 Best Gingerbread House Architect - Andre 🏆 Most Likely To Own the Most Christmas Sweaters - Parker   In a notable speech, Tim Melton reflected on his 55 years with Melcor, sharing stories and advice while reflecting on the pride in the team we have today. His words were truly a testament to what happens when people build something meaningful together. A special part of our Christmas celebration—and perhaps a little Melcor 'tradition'—is the way our musically talented team members share their gifts. Giselle set the tone with a cheerful performance of “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” and Kayla brought the house down with her clever rewrite of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” turning it into a hilarious ode to December survival at the office. Together, the two of them surprised everyone with a duet of “Silent Night" to close the program. At the heart of it all was the joy of being together. The Melcor family is something special, and we are so grateful for the talent, dedication, and spirit that every team member brings. Here’s to celebrating the season and looking forward to everything 2025 will bring. Merry Christmas, from the Melcor family to yours!

  • Celebrating the season with our tenants is a cherished tradition at Melcor: a chance to share warmth, joy, and the simple magic of being together. Each year, we offer drinks and treats, festive music and a chance to pause for a moment in the lobbies of our office buildings. These moments aren’t just about coffee and pastries, they’re our way of saying thank you. Thank you for being part of the Melcor family. Thank you for choosing us for your space and trusting us to serve you. And thank you for inspiring us to always go above and beyond. As the year comes to a close, we reflect on the values that guide us—kindness, care, and creating community. It’s our privilege to serve you, and we hope this holiday season fills your heart with peace, your home with love, and your future with hope. From all of us at Melcor, Happy Holidays!

  • We proudly celebrate Susan Keating, Melcor’s Vice President of Community Development (Edmonton region), who was awarded the Spirit Award at the 2024 BILD Edmonton Metro Spirit Awards last weekend! Sue’s leadership has been transformational for our industry. She was instrumental in the merger of the Urban Development Institute (UDI) and CHBA – Edmonton Region, bringing these organizations together to form BILD Edmonton Metro. This milestone united diverse voices, empowering members to advocate for policies that support vibrant, thriving communities. Sue’s collaborative spirit, technical expertise, and passion for city-building shine through in every project she undertakes. Her ability to bring people together, champion change, and envision a brighter future sets her apart as a true industry trailblazer. As Sue humbly reflects, “Our industry is a community that celebrates and acknowledges one another for our skills, expertise, and commitment to crafting a better region.” Congratulations, Sue, on this well-deserved recognition! • Let us not forget. Today, we honour the bravery of those who served our nation and the freedom that we enjoy because of you. As we reflect on the courage it takes to serve and the great sacrifices made, we are proud to share the story of Stanley Melton, Melcor’s second-generation leader from 1947-1973. Stan served with the 49th Loyal Edmonton Regiment on the frontlines across France, Germany, Italy, and Britain, earning seven medals for his courage and dedication. It was in London, England that Stan met Peggy and so began a love story – a reminder that humanity and hope persist, even in the darkness of war. As we pause to remember our veterans and those in active service, we acknowledge, we honour, and we thank you for your role in securing TODAY—the future that you fought for. Your stories shaped our history and made today possible. Because of your courage, we enjoy the freedoms of speech, the right to live in peace, and the liberty to pursue our dreams without fear. We are able to raise our families in a country that values democracy, equality, and the rule of law. These are gifts that we hold dear, and we are forever grateful. 📷 Courtesy The Melton Family

  • Office Field Trip Day!   Last week, the Melcor team went on a field trip to visit our Edmonton area communities and commercial properties. It was an incredible day packed with learning, team building and fun!    Our journey kicked off in St. Albert at the stunning Jensen Lakes Sarasota showhome, where we dreamt of 'life at the lake' while enjoying coffee and donuts. We then continued through our active Land development projects in Edmonton and Spruce Grove. The Land Development team gave us a crash course on the complex process of turning land into a thriving community. It was eye-opening to see how long the development process can take, with some communities taking 20+ years from start to finish!   We also explored Melcor’s commercial properties such as Jensen Lakes Crossing, West Henday Promenade, and the Shoppes at Jagare Ridge, each closely connected to Melcor-developed neighbourhoods. Our Properties team shared the nuances of commercial development to continue our education on the real estate development process, where we once again benefitted from observing properties at various stages of build out.    The bus tour was a perfect demonstration of what makes Melcor unique—our ability to transform raw land into communities and commercial hubs that enhance the lives of those who live, work, and play there.   Special thanks: 👏 Lindsay Lefebvre and Erin Luys for organizing this memorable day 👏 Sarasota for opening their beautiful showhome for the Melcor team

  • The odds of sinking two holes-in-one in the same round? A staggering 67 million to 1! But Carol Wallace, a retired Melcor employee and Quarter Century Club member, made the impossible happen last week at our very own Lewis Estates Golf Course! ⛳ Carol aced holes 4 and 12 in the same round – an achievement that has everyone talking. A huge congratulations to Carol for this once-in-a-lifetime accomplishment! 👏

  • Meet Kathy Kashuba, the newest member of Melcor’s Quarter Century Club!   Today, we proudly celebrate Kathy and the incredible impact she has had on Melcor over the past 25 years. Kathy exemplifies everything that makes Melcor a special place to work.   Professionally, Kathy played a pivotal role in the initial setup of the operating system that keeps our Land division organized when she first joined us in 1999—and she has been its go-to guru ever since. Known for her unwavering reliability, she’s the person you can always count on to get things done—on time, every time. Kathy is highly attuned to those around her – she always recognizes when someone needs a helping hand and offers hers willingly. Over the years, she has been a wonderful mentor and leader to the Land and Accounting teams, and beyond.   Personally, Kathy has one of the biggest hearts. She’s fiercely loyal not only to her team but to Team Melcor as a whole. As our "Office Mom," Kathy is always ready with a listening ear or sage advice when needed. It’s no wonder she chose “second family” as the word that sums up her Melcor career and considers the “amazing friendships that have been formed and forged over the years” her greatest career accomplishment.   Some of Kathy’s favorite memories at Melcor come from our many social events, including St. Patrick’s Day golf tournaments, management meeting socials, and cheering on the Oilers during playoff runs. These moments have cemented her deep connection to her team and the Melcor community.   Her biggest lesson from 25 years? "Everyone is different. We all have different ways of working and communicating, and that’s okay once you recognize it!" Kathy's keen insight into team dynamics and her deep understanding of people have been key to her success at Melcor. She knows that embracing our differences leads to stronger collaboration, better problem-solving, and a more cohesive team environment. Kathy recognizes that each person brings unique strengths and perspectives to the table, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels valued.   For Kathy, work is more than just tasks—it’s about the connections we build and maintain.   Kathy, we are incredibly fortunate to have you as part of the Melcor family, and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones with you!
