Congratulations to Dr. David S. Wishart and Dr. Russ Greiner on Receiving the 2024 Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research! TMIC is incredibly proud to celebrate Dr. David Wishart, a TMIC Node Leader, and Dr. Russell Greiner for being awarded this prestigious honor by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)! Their groundbreaking achievements in merging chemistry, biochemistry, and advanced computing are pushing the boundaries of scientific discovery and paving the way for innovations that will benefit Canada and the world. Congratulations once again to Dr. Wishart & Dr. Greiner on this well-deserved recognition.

Don't forget to read the October Issue of #MetaboNews! We had the opportunity to interview Dr. Mark Viant for the #MetaboInterview. With a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Chemical Physics from the University of Southampton, Dr. Viant has made significant contributions to the field of metabolomics. During his time at UC Berkeley and UC Davis, Dr. Viant pioneered metabolomics in environmental health for aquatic organisms. in the UK, he further develop environmental metabolomics at the University of Birmingham. His leadership as a Reader in Metabolomics and Director of the NERC Biomolecular Analysis Facility has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of environmental toxicology. In 2018, he co-founded Michabo Health Science Ltd., where he continues to innovate in health science. TMIC Node Leader Dr. Tao Huan presented the 6th Annual MANA conference on "Sample Normalization for Improved Quantitative Performance in Untargeted Metabolomics," highlighting the vital role of normalization in achieving accurate metabolite analysis. Key points included: - A benchmark of six normalization methods, demonstrating that Maximal Density Fold Change (MDFC) consistently outperformed others. - The necessity of addressing data quality issues to enhance normalization effectiveness. - Introduction of an innovative evidence-based normalization workflow designed to improve quantitative comparisons in metabolomics.
