Since 1935, the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) has been the national voice of the Canadian mining industry. Working alongside our members, MAC promotes the industry nationally and internationally, works with governments on policies affecting the sector and educates the public on the value mining brings to the economy and the daily life of Canadians. Our members account for most of Canada’s production of base and precious metals, uranium, diamonds, metallurgical coal, mined oil sands and industrial minerals, and are actively engaged in mineral exploration, mining, smelting, refining and semi-fabrication.

Canadians can’t afford another labour disruption impacting our critical infrastructure. Together with more than 115 industry associations, chambers of commerce, and boards of trade across the country, we’ve sent a letter to the Ministers of Labour and Transport to voice our concerns. Our message is clear: The ripple effects of labour disruptions across Canada’s ports this year are being felt across the economy, are negatively impacting Canadian consumers, workers, and businesses, while also tarnishing Canada’s global reputation as a reliable trading partner and stable place to do business. We cannot allow this to continue. It’s time for the federal government to take decisive action, using every tool at its disposal to end this disruption and mitigate the damage. Canadian businesses, and Canadian livelihoods, are at stake. Read our letter below ⤵ https://lnkd.in/eZCB7jc3

MAC CEO Pierre Gratton joined ICMM’s Aidan Davy and Colombian Ean University Rector Brigitte Baptiste for a panel discussion on mining, biodiversity and the transition to a low carbon economy. The imperative of responsible mining given the planet’s needs for metals to support the transition was a central theme, including the role of mining standards such as TSM and the proposed Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative. #COP16 ICMM The Copper Mark World Gold Council
