It's #HeartMonth, and MMC is proud to highlight the important role we play in supporting cardiac care at our Member hospitals across Canada. #MohawkMedbuy partners with Cardiac Centres in Ontario, New Brunswick and PEI, working closely with their teams to source vital cardiac clinical supplies. Cardiac care is complex, requiring a vast array of specialized medical products, such as heart valves, stents, cardiac devices (including pacemakers and ICDs), minimally invasive valves (such as TAVI) and cardiac ablation products. MMC also sources capital equipment used in cardiac catheterization labs, hybrid ORs and electrophysiology labs. Our experienced Clinical Team works closely with our Members throughout the sourcing process to ensure clinicians have the products needed to deliver quality care that enhances patient outcomes. Ensuring our Members have access to high-quality options, competitive pricing, and flexible contract terms is central to what we do. Case in point – the new Opportunity Agreements secured by MMC's CAPsource team for heart-lung machines and heater-cooler units – crucial equipment for cardiac care.

#MohawkMedbuy is celebrating the success of our OHTconnect program, which helps the community partners of the Ontario Health Teams (OHTs) save money on the essential supplies they use every day. OHTconnect now has 27 OHTs participating, with more than 100 community health partners benefiting from our large-scale contract pricing, easy online ordering and next day delivery through our distribution partner The Stevens Company. The Georgian Bay Family Health Organization supports interdisciplinary teams of primary health care providers in South-Central Ontario. They shared some thoughts about the program’s benefits: “The OHTconnect Program is a true win-win for health care. Our family health teams and clinics really benefit from the volume discounts. All those savings allow us to put money back where it’s needed – into frontline patient care!” –Angus Crawford, Business Manager, Georgian Bay Family Health Organization

The finishing touches are coming together on the construction of this #MohawkMedbuy Member hospice facility. Almost time for MMC's FF&E team to bring in the furniture fixtures and equipment!
In case you missed it! Hospice Construction is in the Final Stretch! 🙌 We're in the final stretch of construction over at Providence Care's hospice residence! Located at 152 Phillips Street, our hospice residence will be the first new build to open in Providence Village Inc., a growing community of compassionate care and support services! 🌟 The finishing touches are coming together inside the building and it's all hands-on deck to make this vision a reality. ✨ 🔨 What’s happening now: •The team is focusing on architectural details like finishing trim, baseboards, and doors. In the coming days, every patient and bathroom door will be hung and ready to be painted or stained. •Millwork is being placed! Cabinets are being installed in patient rooms, med rooms, offices and in the family Kitchen. You can see in the pictures the nursing station is also set and ready to go! •Patient rooms will be getting the final inspection with touch-up paint and drop-in ceiling tiles. All the private, patient bathrooms are complete with stunning tiles and fixtures. •Intricate tile work is being completed in the main entrance and the kitchen and living room floors are set to be installed soon so lower cabinets can follow. Over the next two weeks, the construction crew will make a major push to finish the interior of the 10-bed residence. In February, we’ll enter “post-construction mode," where systems will be tested and furniture moved in. It won’t be long before we announce an official opening day and host tours for the community, so stay tuned! 🎉 When our hospice residence opens, we’ll provide 24-hour compassionate end-of-life care for patients and support for their families. Our goal is to ensure comfort and quality of life by taking a holistic, whole-person approach to care where families can be comfortable together. We've come this far thanks to a steadfast team, the community's belief in this project, and all the generous donations made to the @University Hospitals Kingston Foundation. Here's to the final stretch!

Touching tribute to the invaluable work of long-time hospital volunteer Bill Knicely who dedicated so much time and energy to this #MohawkMedbuy Member hospital.
Volunteering Is A Lifestyle Choice – shared in memory of GBGH Volunteer Bill Knicely Why would you choose to spend your time helping out at the hospital and not get paid? That is a question we asked our volunteers. Bill Knicely was one of the first people you saw when you entered the hospital, either at the main entrance or most recently in the Emergency Department. Whether it’s helping people at registration, assisting them through triage, filling the supply wagons, preparing the admittance packages, assisting with the parking machines, or simply greeting you with a smile, his goal was to “make the visit to the hospital pleasant”. Bill was a long-time volunteer in the community, having been a member of the Civitan Club, Huronia Museum and also a Big Brother. He played the snare drum and on Fridays played in a band at the Askennonia Seniors Centre. When Dr. Richard Thomas suggested Bill join the GBGH Volunteer Association after retiring in October 2015, that’s just what he did - and he did an outstanding job for nearly 10 years. Bill was recognized with the Georgian Bay General Hospital Board of Directors Exceptional People Award for demonstrating the organization’s values. To be eligible the recipient must demonstrate exceptional care, to every person, every time, by living the values for customer service and patient care. Bill believed volunteering at the hospital is good for retirees, as it lets you continue to use your conversation and people skills. “It helps you to speak in front of others in group settings and gain confidence in yourself. The work provides you with an understanding of how the hospital functions and in today’s environment the hospital would have a difficult time meeting its goals of excellent patient care, without the assistance of volunteers,” he said. Since the provincial government does not include funding to purchase capital equipment, Bill understood the need and believed in supporting the hospital financially. Along with working with the Volunteer Association, he also contributed to GBGHF personally. He volunteered at GBGH an average of 12 hours per week throughout his tenure. He believed in paying it forward and that the world needs more volunteers. “Don’t be greedy with your time” and live by the Golden Rule - do unto others as you would have them do unto – were part of his philosophy and daily action plan. We thank Bill for the enthusiasm and care he brought to his volunteer position and for making a visit to the hospital a pleasant experience.
