How does your machining partner help you optimize your part performance? 🦾⏳ For this special project, our machinists utilized our CNC lathe, milling and cylindrical grinding equipment to produce a heat treated tool steel blank. Then, we partnered with 🍁Ontario-based Castelar Tool’s cutter grinding and coating services to create some highly custom geometry. ⚙️ In total, we produced 10 tools which will be installed into our customer’s larger assembly for cutting polyurethane rubber! MPC Advanced Machining Team member Profile. This is Daryn Douglas, Daryn is a second year General Machinist Apprentice At MPC Advanced Machining. Daryn's main focus is keeping this 30 year old DAHLIH going. This workhorse is used for a lot of roughing work and for components that require a lower tolerance. He is also being trained on our GF Machining Solutions Mikron Mill P900, there are a couple examples of the components Daryn has been working on in the attached photos. I sat down for a few minutes with Daryn to ask him some questions so we could all get to know him a little more, our discussion is below. 1. What inspired you to pursue a career in CNC machining and join MPC Advanced Machining? "I have always loved making things—taking something and turning it into something useful—and machining is a great way to do it. I heard about MPC while in college; it sounded like a great place to work, and it turned out to be true." 2. Can you share a recent project you worked on and explain how it showcased your technical skills and problem-solving abilities? "There was a bracket that needed some bends in it. We didn’t have anything to do this with, so I had to figure it out. Using some setup blocks, a pin, and a vise, I was able to get the proper angles bent into the part to make it function properly." 3. How does MPC Advanced Machining’s commitment to innovation and technology impact your work and the projects you handle? "This commitment has made it so that we can always do things better and more efficiently with every new job we get." 4. What is one piece of advice you would give to someone considering a career in CNC machining or the skilled trades? "The trades have so much room for people to learn, with great opportunities for anyone who wants to grow their skill and knowledge in new ways." 5. What do you enjoy most about working at MPC Advanced Machining, and how does the team environment contribute to that? "The people and the culture of MPC make it a place I want to be at every day. How do you get to know your team? At MPC Advanced Machining when we have a new team member join us we have lunch together. Then we go around the table, introduce ourselves and say a little bit about us. We have a very diverse team, with team members from all over the world. A couple fun facts, we have a team member who has competed in the world championships of skydiving and has over 10,000 jumps under his belt. Challenge accepted! Our machinists Doug, Mark, and Daryn have had another busy week using our GF Machining Solutions Mikron Mill P900 and our Cimatron CAM system to finish a fancy new set of core inserts for another local molding customer! 📍 These inserts will be used to produce Canadian-made plumbing products. 🍁 🛁 We found success 📈 cutting this BÖHLER M303 Extra (44RC) pre-hardened stainless steel using tools from a variety of our partners including OSG Canada Ltd., Guhring USA, ISCAR Headquarters, Majac Tooling Supply, FK Machinery.
