Happy MUNSTAR Monday!!! 🎉🚀 Last week, the team conducted flat-sat testing to test multiple components in sequence. Important timestamps in the video include: 0:06 - Roller Switch is removed, this starts the timer board 0:07 to 0:37 - After thirty seconds, the multimeter is seen changing from 0V to 3.3V. When the multimeter changed to 3.3V, the code to turn the switchable 5V channel on the iEPS will run, which will initiate the burn wire mechanism. 0:38 to 1:43 - Burn wire test is turned on. 1:44 - Panels are deployed! 2:03 to 2:08 - CC1, CC2, CC3 values are showed. #munstarmonday #testing #engineering #mun #electricalengineering #mechanicalengineering #cubesat

About us
About Us: MUNStar-1 is a pioneering initiative, marking its first year of operation as a student-led venture into the realm of CubeSat technology at Memorial. Our focus is on innovating and exploring the possibilities of small satellite technology across various sectors. MUNStar-1 operates across the following critical subsystems: Mechanical: This subsystem is dedicated to the structural integrity of MUNStar-1, focusing on the design, 3D modeling, and assembly of the satellite's frame to ensure proper fit and function of all components. Mission Control System (MCS): Central to our operations, the MCS oversees all satellite subsystems. It handles the collection, storage, and management of data, ensuring the smooth operation of the satellite in Low-Earth Orbit. Electrical Power Supply: This subsystem is responsible for powering the satellite. It includes solar panels and battery systems, designed to provide consistent and reliable power while adhering to safety and operational standards. Thermal: Manages the thermal environment of the satellite, protecting it from the extreme temperature variations in space. This subsystem is crucial for maintaining the functionality and longevity of onboard components. Communications: Ensures effective data transmission between the satellite and our ground station. It's key for receiving mission data, including scientific measurements and operational status updates. Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS): This system controls the orientation of the satellite, crucial for aligning its instruments and solar panels for optimal performance and data collection. Join Our Team: We welcome passionate individuals who are eager to contribute to this exciting field. Whether you're interested in engineering, space research, or project management, there's a place for you in MUNStar-1. This previous Thursday, the MUNStar-1 team was fortunate to participate in the 3rd annual Student Design Hub Showcase event. A huge thank you goes out to Student Design Hub manager John Walsh for organizing the event! And of course, another huge thank you is dedicated to project leads Victoria Vaters (left), Daniel Dolomount (middle), and mechanical team lead Caleb Anstey (right), for representing the team at the event! We are proud to receive the colabsoftware: "Best in the show" award shared with the force7sailing team. Thank you Colab Software and Adam Keating for your support throughout engineering design teams at MUN. Congratulations to the force7sailing team for this accomplishment. #munstar1 #munstar1cubesat #CUBICS #engineering #mun #colabs #force7sailing #cubesat

The key to long term acceleration is inspiring the next generation. Last week, 11 of the top student teams took the SDH Showcase Stage. 200+ students competing in international competitions to build satellites, rovers, autonomous EVs, off-roaders, sailboats, ASVs and more. I had the chance to talk with most of the student team leaders and the level of ambition and drive in that group is exactly what is needed to build the future we all want (and need). Shoutout to Force 7 Sailing and MUNStar-1 CubeSat for taking home the CoLab Software Best in Show Award for the 3rd Showcase. If you are interesting in supporting these student teams either with sponsorship or mentorship, reach out to me and Ill get you connected. Keep up the good work John Walsh and the Student Design Hub! 🤘 e/acc 🚀

From sky to sea, the team at Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador are leading the way in innovation and some pretty cool satellite work! Following the successful launch of the Killick-1 satellite from the International Space Station in May of this year, engineering students at Memorial University are developing a second earth observation satellite with a mission to study the ocean as part of the Canadian Space Agency | Agence spatiale canadienne CUBICS program. Spearheaded by C-CORE and Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, MUNStar-1 will be a CubeSat that contains a GNSS Reflectometry payload. The satellite will collect GPS signals reflected from the earth’s surface as a passive radar to measure waves, winds, sea ice, oil spills and other ocean parameters from space. In addition to providing valuable scientific data, construction of MUNStar-1 will educate aspiring young engineers in space systems and earth observation. The team includes a large group of undergraduate and graduate electrical, mechanical and mechatronics engineering students. The satellite will be deployed to a sun synchronous orbit or an orbit similar to the International Space Station. Through our Research Innovation Fund, I was proud to announce an investment of $350,000 to help get the project off the ground. This funding will help support and train the next generation of highly qualified professionals in the province’s growing tech sector and inspire so many to consider a career in technology. I am excited to watch this project as it develops and wish everyone involved the best of luck! 👏🏻 🛰 🌌 #innovation #tech #technl #growth #research #development #funding #space #ISS #Canadianspaceagency #spaceagency #oceans #oceantech #oceantechnology #MUN #university #science #engineering #IET #canada #nl
