  • Did you know? Nurse Practitioners (NPs) have been transforming healthcare in Canada for over 50 years. Originally introduced in 1967 to address gaps in primary care, their role has evolved into one of the most critical components of the health system—improving access, driving innovation, and delivering high-quality care both independently and collaboratively across diverse settings. Today, NPs are leaders, educators, and changemakers, working to strengthen the Canadian healthcare system while addressing the evolving needs of patients and communities. From pioneering new care models to mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals and advocating for systemic improvements, NPs are driving meaningful change every day. ✨

My team and I recently wrote this piece for Parents Canada "The Gift of Understanding: Holiday Advice for Parents of 2SLGBTQ+ Youth". This piece is based on questions that I often receive from parents and families, and stories and experiences that youth have shared with me. I hope this helps parents and families create inclusive and affirming home environments where their children feel safe and supported.
