An Inuit-led and owned corporation established to oversee the development & operation of the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre link
About us
Welcome to Nukik Corporation, the organization developing the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link. We are an Inuit-led and owned corporation established by the Kivalliq Inuit Association and Sakku Development Corporation to oversee the development and operation of large infrastructure projects in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut. Despite being the largest territory in Canada, Nunavut has been isolated from the rest of the nation for far too long. Because of that, the region has had to rely on emissions-intensive diesel generators for electricity and heating. Inuit of the Kivalliq region are moving toward more sustainable and reliable power and connectivity through the development of the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link, a 1200 km, 150 megawatt transmission infrastructure project that will bring renewable energy from Manitoba to Nunavut. The project, which was recently included in the 2021 Canadian federal budget, will also bring broadband service to the region through reliable 1,200 gigabits per second fibre-optic bandwidth capacity, enabling tremendous socio-economic opportunities. It will also be cost-effective with a 60-year lifespan. This project alone will meet and exceed all of Nunavut's 2030 GHG emissions reduction target and produce estimated revenues of $8 billion over 50 years. Nukik also plans to create job opportunities and more infrastructure projects for the residents and youth of Nunavut. Follow us as we bring this exciting nation-building project to life to ensure the Kivalliq region of Nunavut can become a thriving hub of Inuit prosperity.

A connected, empowered Nunavut is vital for a thriving, inclusive Canada. With over 85% of Nunavut’s population being Inuit and Nunavut making up one-fifth of Canada’s total land mass, economic development will be a significant step towards Inuit self-determination. Take a moment to read my op-ed in TheFutureEconomy.ca today. It only takes one trip to #Nunavut to realize its immense untapped potential. Yet, no modern society can be built without modern infrastructure. We continue to develop the nation- building #KivalliqHydroFibreLink with that commitment to bridging the infrastructure gap and finally bringing Nunavut within the societal and economic make up of Canada. Major projects are not easy as they take a collective vision, risk taking and enduring leadership. Continue to support this journey in any way you can as we further define and strengthen our collaboration with the Federal government, Manitoba partners and other stakeholders. #Inuit #climateaction #majorprojects #cleanenergy
