Have you made someone feel awesome today?

This past week StratLab Marketing had the absolute privilege of being the media sponsor of the first annual National Indigenous Defence Conference at the National War Museum in Ottawa, which was put on by our good friends OneHoop! I can't say enough great things about what Cree Lavallee, BBA, Jada Yee, Thomas Benjoe, and Cadmus Delorme are doing. WOW! I had many inspiring moments throughout the conference just being able to witness the conversations that were happening in the room. This OneHoop team is doing something special, and I am very thankful Brandon Wu and I were able to witness it. Moments that stood out to me during the conference: Truth comes from the brain, reconciliation comes from the heart. (Thank you, Cadmus!) When looking at doing major projects, look to do them alongside Indigenous communities. It may take time, but they can definitely be done. There was story after story of major projects that became joint ventures, which took time but were so worth it in the end. A really cool moment was Cadmus helping the audience understand how each generation learned about Indigenous people. Through Generations X, Y and Z and how the school systems taught about the Nations that were here long before Canada became Canada. A captivated audience would be an understatement. And of course, my favourite story of the day. From Cadmus, a story he told about inherited trauma told through a hilarious story about "Duck the Police!" He had the audience tearing up with laughter but teaching an important lesson about how things are changing. Jodi Rodriguez, CMP, DES, worked magic making sure the conference ran smoothly with no hiccups, even with all the dignitaries who had a ton of logistics that I'm sure I didn't even see half of! HA! Awesome job Jodi! I can't wait to see what this team does next because that was one inspiring conference to be a part of. Feeling very thankful to know this team! 🙏 #DuckThePolice

We were honoured to have Cadmus Delorme (alumnus) share his experiences and teachings along with Neal Kewistep & Dr. Danette Starblanket to help everyone at JSGS better understand Reconcilation. There were so many important takeaways. For me, it was about mindset: the need to retrain our brains to understand the truth. When we can walk with one foot in both Indigenous & Canadian worldviews then our hearts will be open for reconciliation. Ours is the first generation to be gifted the TRC 94 Calls to Action. The end goal is equality and what an incredible adventure to be able to walk together towards this. I have such hope for our future generations. The Niipaawi team was honored to attend and sponsor the First Annual Indigenous Defence Conference! This groundbreaking event brought together Indigenous leaders, the Governor General Mary Simon, and Minister of Defence Bill Blair to discuss the critical role of economic reconciliation in Canada’s defence sector. From honest conversations about systemic challenges to celebrating success stories like the federal procurement policy, the day was filled with insight and collaboration. We learned about the rapid growth of Indigenous capacity and opportunities, the importance of diverse representation at all levels, and the power of partnerships to build skills and drive success. A big thank you to OneHoop for organizing such an impactful event. We’re excited to keep these conversations going and help Indigenous entrepreneurs navigate the path forward. #EconomicReconciliation #IndigenousLeadership #DefenceConference #Niipaawi #IndigenousBusiness #Canada

Joined by Cadmus Delorme and Tabatha Bull ICD.D, our President, Chris Webb, shared his thoughts on what Reconciliation in defence means from an Indigenous perspective. This discussion is an important opportunity to reflect on how Reconciliation can guide us in creating stronger relationships, fostering mutual respect, and ensuring equity for Indigenous communities.
