Got to attend a very powerful night of storytelling hosted by Jamii - Video Portraits from Pikangikum, a project funded through Ontario Arts Council | Conseil des arts de l'Ontario Pikangikum is a northern community in Ontario, near Red Lake. This series not only highlights community members, culture and local histories but offers moments of artistic exchange wherein local artists came to Toronto to share their art and artistry. For example, Darwin Peters - a painter from Pikangikum First Nation - one of his largest murals is on the St Lawrence Community Recreation Centre in the heart of the Esplanade. Wonderful to see these collaborations and relationships build through art-making between northern and southern Ontario.

As December winds down, I've been reflecting on the incredible year I've had working with Ontario Arts Council | Conseil des arts de l'Ontario. I was able to connect with so many vibrant communities across the northern parts of the province thanks to this work. I met so many artists and organizations doing phenomenal work and learned so much. A highlight of my year was making a trip to Bearskin Lake First Nation in May. It was my first ever trip to a remote, fly-in community. I traveled with many other funders thanks to a connection made with the Community Development Wrap-Around Initiative through Indigenous Services Canada. Together we got to know the community and shared a little about how our organizations can support the incredible work taking place in Bearskin Lake. So grateful to be doing this work and look forward to seeing what next year brings.

‘Wizard of Oz’ a holiday pantomime, opened yesterday at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre - another fantastic production by Canadian Stage! Congratulations to Monica Esteves and the entire team. We were warmly received by Tin Man (proof in the picture) in the city of TorOZto. The show is wonderfully engaging and guarantees fun for the whole family. I’ll say no more - go see it for yourself! I had the pleasure of attending with our Board member Twee Brown and our Program Officer for Theatre, Daniel Carter. I was honoured to be a #cannondoll with Ontario Arts Council | Conseil des arts de l'Ontario Chair Simon Foster on opening night of The National Ballet of Canada The Nutcracker (https://lnkd.in/guVcwnF2). There are still some single tickets left in this run. What an incredible experience to be behind the scenes for a moment with over 200 professional dancers, youth dancers, technicians, dance coaches, choristers, choral leaders, musicians, costume designers, and more. It was a testament to the many great people that make performing arts magic happen across the province. Speaking about across the Province OAC supported Ballet Jorgen Canada brings The Nutcracker to communities across Ontario. https://lnkd.in/gfwEAsWk Tickets still available for City of Peterborough, City of Ottawa / Ville d’Ottawa, City of Brampton, City Of Guelph, City of London, Canada, City of Kitchener and City of Markham.
