The Ontario government recently introduced the sixth Working for Workers Act, aimed at enhancing worker protections and addressing modern workplace challenges. Key highlights include: ✔️ Support for workers and businesses through decreased WSIB premiums and adding $2 billion in WSIB surplus funds to offer rebates for businesses practicing proper health and safety in the workplace. ✔️ The elimination of exam fees imposed on apprentices taking their skilled trades qualification. ✔️ The creation of the Ontario Payroll Burden Reduction Consultative Forum which strives to provide expert advice and recommendations on reducing administrative payroll burdens for businesses across the province. Daniel Tisch, APR, FCPRS, ICD.D, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce was quoted in the new release from the provincial government "Ontario’s prosperity depends on creating private sector jobs, ensuring a diverse, skilled talent pipeline and helping small businesses scale up. That’s why the Ontario Chamber shares the government’s focus on lowering the cost of doing business, removing barriers to employment and rewarding organizations that create the safe, healthy environments for their people.” These reforms build on previous efforts to adapt labor laws to evolving economic conditions. Last month, Level5 attended the Ontario Chamber of Commerce's Ontario Economic Summit. This event brought together leaders from business, government, and local chambers all around the event’s key focus: future-proofing Ontario. We were inspired by a series of insightful panels and presentations, and we engaged in dynamic roundtable discussions with the Hon. Sylvia Jones (Minister of Health), the Hon. Todd McCarthy (Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement), and the Hon. Mike Harris (Minister of Red Tape Reduction). Connecting with community leaders was another highlight of the event. Some of our key takeaways: 🌎 US-Canada Trade Relations: US Ambassador Cohen emphasized the critical importance of economic collaboration between our deeply connected economies. A strong trade relationship is mutually beneficial. 🌱 Indigenous Economy: Reconciliation is both a social and economic imperative. The Indigenous economy in Canada is growing rapidly. Innovative models are fostering partnerships that enhance both financial and non-financial impacts, building critical infrastructure for Indigenous communities. 🔍 Life Sciences: Ontario boasts a phenomenal level of talent, excellence, and ambition across life sciences. Leaders emphasized the need for continued capital investment to fuel Ontario’s growth across all parts of the sector. ⚡️ Energy Landscape: Ontario's energy sector is a key growth driver, attracting significant international investment. Leading companies are expanding this sector, ensuring Ontario’s growth is powered by a sustainable energy mix, though challenges remain. 🤖 AI Integration: The integration of AI into Ontario's business practices has the potential to set the province up for success. Key players are working to ensure responsible AI adoption, with a focus on building a broad understanding of AI fundamentals and supporting widespread adoption. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce for organizing such an impactful event. The insightful talks and valuable connections we made were truly enriching. #OES2024 #FutureProofingON
