Representing the Ontario mining industry to improve competitiveness, promote safety and enable sustainable lifestyles.
About us
The Ontario Mining Association (OMA) was established in 1920 to represent the mining industry of the province and is one of the longest serving trade organizations in Canada. We have a long history of working constructively with governments and communities of interest to build consensus on issues that matter to our industry and to the people of this province. Our success in advocating for industry advancement is based on our ability to harness the collective strength of our highly engaged members. We are proud to serve as a focal point for discussions on the issues and opportunities facing our community and to offer our members a unified voice on matters of public policy and opinion. Our goal is to overcome challenges that impede the competitiveness of responsible operations and to foster an environment that bolsters mining's potential to be the cornerstone of Ontario's new, innovation-oriented green economy.

We had an incredible time bringing This Is Mine Life LIVE to Level Up! London, where thousands of youth got hands-on with Ontario’s mining industry! The youth learned about the role of mining in making modern life possible, explored careers in the skilled trades in mining and asked a lot of great questions about what ‘mine life’ is really like. Catch up with our amazing ambassadors Cara R., Sustainability Associate at Alamos Gold Inc.; Carolynne Champagne, HR Manager at Compass Minerals; Mohammand Hoque, Co-op Student with Mining Matters; and Lane Pitblado, Machine Health Technologist at Compass Minerals. Thank you to NORCAT, Covergalls Workwear, Mining Matters, Toromont Cat and Compass Minerals for joining us in London. This summer, Joanne Sallay, CEO of Teachers on Call, joined Ontario educators on the Mining & Mineral Resources Educator Tour at the IAMGOLD Corporation Côté Gold Mine and A.Y. Jackson Lookout Trail, hosted in partnership with Mining Matters, The Canadian Ecology Centre Centre and the OMA. Among the inspiring group of educators was Robert Millard, a dedicated science teacher and Science Teachers' Association of Ontario (STAO) member, passionate about bringing mining into the classroom. Rob shares how mining’s cutting-edge tech—like autonomous trucks and real-time data mapping—can engage students in real-world STEM applications. “Modern mining is incredibly forward-thinking,” Rob shared. “It’s an industry where collaboration and problem-solving are key.” Watch Joanne's interview with Rob to see how he’s bringing hands-on learning into his classroom, inspiring students to explore the future of STEM and skilled trades. Thank you Rob for being a champion of Ontario’s mining industry! Stay tuned to the latest updates by This Is Mine Life: bit.ly/ThisIsMineLife #MiningEducation #STEM #CareersinMining #FutureofMining

An important message from a Meet the Miners 2024 sponsor, Cementation Americas: “As an industry, we cannot lose sight of the role that mental health plays in the safety of our employees. It's far from merely a personal journey—it must be a collective priority. As we navigate the complexities of our projects, shaped by largely unpredictable environments, governing bodies, and society, it's our responsibility as leaders from corporate and government sectors to truly come together meaningfully to champion mental health as an integral part of our safety commitments. The Ontario Mining Association is a powerful catalyst for collaboration and advocacy. As a member, Cementation Canada is proud to contribute and innovate to prioritize the mental well-being of employees and families, fostering more supportive and resilient communities with greater economic prosperity.” – Eric Kohtakangas, Senior Executive Vice President, Cementation Canada Inc. #HealthMatters #Lecreatingip #SafetyFirst #CommunitySupport #MentalHealthSafety #CorporateResponsibility #GovernmentLeadership #MiningIndustry #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkplaceWellness #SafetyProtocols #CommunityWellbeing #EconomicProsperity #EmployeeSupport

What an inspiring story of community support! Huge thanks to our member Barrick for stepping up as a community leader, and also for sponsoring this year's Meet the Miners event. It’s a fantastic opportunity for OMA members to connect and exchange ideas with Ontario policymakers. 🙌
As many of you know, Barrick Hemlo has made a significant donation to the Township of Manitouwadge to support the upgrade of their Community Centre. This enhanced facility will offer a wide range of winter and summer activities for all community members, including a full-service fitness center, arena, curling rink, and library. The building will also feature an auditorium for events and programs, which will be named the Barrick Auditorium. We are proud to support this incredible initiative and look forward to seeing the project come to life.
