As 2024 draws to a close and we look ahead to 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on the successes we have shared and the opportunities awaiting us in the new year. This holiday season, I am inspired by our members. CAOs are the architects of effective governance, bridging the gap between elected officials and daily operations. CAOs are community builders whose work strengthens trust in local government and creates spaces where individuals and businesses can thrive. CAOs bring stability by navigating challenges such as economic shifts, environmental concerns, and emerging technologies, all while keeping the community’s best interests at heart. I am also reminded of the strength, resilience, and dedication that define our association. Each of you—our members, partners, and supporters—has contributed to making this year one of progress and growth. Together, we have navigated challenges, celebrated milestones, and growth the association in terms of members, services, and impact. Looking ahead to 2025, I am excited for what we will achieve together. Our collective commitment to our mission is the foundation of our success, and I am confident that our shared vision will continue to guide us toward meaningful accomplishments. As we gather with loved ones to celebrate the holidays, I wish you peace, joy, and renewal. May the season bring warmth to your homes and inspire hope for the year to come. Thank you for being an integral part of this journey. On behalf of OMAA, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year. Sincerely, Laurie Kennard, OMAA President

OMAA welcomes the introduction of legislation aimed at strengthening local governance in Ontario. This initiative is a crucial step toward enhancing accountability and transparency within municipal governments. We look forward to collaborating with the government to ensure that it effectively addresses the critical issues of harassment and accountability in the municipal sector. Together, we can create a safer, more respectful environment for all municipal employees and enhance public trust in local governance. Thanks to Kris Rushowy for including the CAO perspective in her piece. https://lnkd.in/g58kZPz4

AMO is hopeful that legislation that will be tabled today by the Province will provide greater clarity on municipal enforcement related to homeless encampments while respecting important Charter rights. However, enforcement alone will not effectively address encampments. The 1,400 homeless encampments in Ontario today are the result of decades of provincial underinvestment in income security, mental health and addictions services, and deeply affordable housing. Are you looking for an Interim Chief Administrative Officer to fulfill a short-term role in your municipality? The CAO position is one of the most important positions in a municipal government, serving as the top municipal staffer and the main administrator. As such, it is crucial to always have an effective and knowledgeable #CAO in place. #humanresorces #ontario #municipal Why hire an Interim CAO? 1. Give Council additional time to decide what the next steps will be in the hiring process. 2. Allow suitable time to find a permanent CAO. 3. Fill critical gaps, smooth transitions, and ensure less disruption. 4. Utilize an experienced CAO to navigate times of transition and uncertainty or to deal with a challenging issue. See a list of qualified and available Interim CAOs on our list: https://lnkd.in/gDiBR_5b
