Helping to empower youth to stop impaired driving since 1987
About us
Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving, a registered Canadian charity, is a provincial youth driven organization that strives to promote smart decisions through public awareness in a realistic and relevant manner to prevent tragedies caused by impaired driving. Impairment involves any substance or circumstance which renders the driver unable to control the vehicle. Unsafe driving practices are also responsible for teen driving fatality and injury. OSAID addresses the issues of texting and driving, speeding, street racing, seatbelt use, and drug use while driving. Over the past three decade OSAID has graduated over 20,000 youth leaders who are now living, working, and driving in every community throughout Ontario. OSAID presently manages OSAID chapters and OSAID youth-run activities throughout province of Ontario. These youth launch motivational and educational campaigns to promote a practical and responsible driver-safety message to a hard to reach audience -their peers. OSAID Inc's elected and appointed volunteer adult Board of Directors works with the Executive Director and Provincial Youth Advisory Team to plan, direct and implement all of OSAID's programs.

An Inspiring Day at Queen’s Park: Smart Serve Advocacy in Action We were honored to host Smart Serve Day at Queen’s Park, a meaningful occasion dedicated to discussing mental health and responsible service in Ontario’s hospitality industry. As we celebrate 29 years of Smart Serve’s leadership in education and advocacy, Fred Luk and Jody Palubiski joined me in engaging with Ministers, MPPs, and their staff to highlight our programs' critical role in fostering safer, more responsible communities. The day concluded with a reception featuring exceptional food, insightful conversations, and responsibly served beverages. Key moments from the day: 1️⃣ A productive meeting with France Gélinas to discuss free therapy access for Smart Serve Certificate holders, a vital resource for those in the hospitality sector. 2️⃣ An engaging interaction with Minister Doug Downey, who not only provided thoughtful feedback but also showcased his bar-tending skills. 3️⃣ A constructive conversation with Jamie West on the importance of comprehensive training in our sector. We were also pleased to see PA Dave Smith take the Smart Serve course and join us as a guest bartender alongside John Vanthof and Will Bouma, embodying the principles of responsible service in action. We extend our gratitude to our valued partners for their support and participation: Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association Tourism Industry Association of Ontario FEO (Festivals and Events Ontario)) Not 9 to 5 Org Destination Toronto Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police CAA Club Group This day was a testament to the power of collaboration and dialogue in driving positive change. We look forward to continuing these important conversations and working together to support Ontario’s hospitality industry. #SmartServe #AdvocacyDay #MentalHealth #Hospitality #OntarioLeadership

Spent the day chatting with media about these results to remind Ontarians ahead of the holiday season, that driving under the influence of cannabis is dangerous and illegal. If you are interested in learning more about these survey results, the Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals and CAA Club Group is hosting a webinar on December 11th from noon to 1pm est. Registration is available here: https://lnkd.in/gjyrCDZR Teresa Di Felice Brenda Suggett
A recent survey conducted by CAA South Central Ontario found that substance use, specifically cannabis, is on the rise for Ontarians. According to the study, over half (53%) of Ontario drivers have ever tried cannabis, a 14% increase from last year. As more Ontarians are using cannabis, the number of impaired motorists is also on the rise. The survey found that 19% of Ontario drivers admit to ever consuming cannabis and driving a vehicle, a 5% increase from last year. As the holiday season approaches, we are asking those who consume cannabis, alcohol or other drugs to plan ahead by making alternate travel arrangements, such as using a rideshare service, to get home safely. At CAA Club Group, #MemberSafety is our top priority, including #RoadSafety. Although cannabis may be legal, it is not compatible with responsible driving.
