In recent years, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology has advanced significantly, delivering data with higher spatial resolutions and more frequent revisit times. These improvements have transformed the level of detail we can extract from SAR imagery. For example, detecting the presence of a vessel might only require lower-resolution SAR data, such as that obtained in ScanSAR or StripMap modes. However, identifying the specific type of vessel demands higher-resolution datasets, like those captured in SpotLight mode. The possibilities don’t stop there. Today’s SAR resolutions sometimes enable the identification of objects on a ship’s deck. In the attached animation, we analyzed a crude oil tanker signature provided by Capella Space and enhanced the dataset with a helicopter signature generated by our SSIG software. SSIG is a powerful tool for creating synthetic signatures, which are essential for training OREC, our AI-based detection and classification system. With OREC, we were able to identify and classify the objects on the vessel. This example highlights the increasing level of detail achievable with modern SAR systems and underscores the evolution of radar-based information extraction. #SyntheticApertureRadar #SAR #AI #SSIG #Detection #Classification #OREC #Resilient #Adaptable #Precise #HighResolution #SpotlightMode

Maxar Technologies has released the first images from its third and fourth WorldView Legion satellites, a key milestone in advancing mid-latitude Earth observation. These satellites bring "dawn-to-dusk" collection capabilities, enabling image capture at different times of day - unlike traditional sun-synchronous satellites with fixed collection schedules. This development strengthens the delivery of high-resolution, timely data, supporting dynamic missions that demand near real-time intelligence. #EarthObservation #SatelliteImagery

📢 News flash: The first images from our third and fourth WorldView Legion satellites are here. And what a story they tell. These stunning, high-resolution images show points of interest in New Zealand, Dubai and Hawaii, including an intraday collection that demonstrates our "dawn-to-dusk" capability: 1️⃣ New Zealand: All three images of the airport in Christchurch, New Zealand, were collected in a three-hour period by the same satellite on November 7, 2024, showing aircraft movement and fueling operations in near real-time. 2️⃣ Dubai: A high-resolution image of the Burj Khalifa collected on November 17, 2024, at 2:52 p.m. local time, shows incredible detail of architectural features and shadows. 3️⃣ Hawaii: Another early morning image collected at 7:27 a.m. local time shows the Grand Princess cruise ship docked at the Pier 2 Cruise Terminal in Honolulu, Hawaii, before its departure later that day. ☀️ These two satellites are Maxar’s first in mid-inclination orbit, which unlocks the “dawn-to-dusk” capability. Once all six WorldView Legion satellites are fully operational next year, our constellation will be able to revisit some Earth locations up to 15x a day, from sunup to sundown. ⭐ This represents the highest revisit rates at 30 cm-class resolution of any commercial Earth observation constellation on orbit. ➡️ Learn more about how these capabilities empower government and commercial users here: https://lnkd.in/gaqGttwD
