Starting June 25, 2024, the capital gains inclusion rate, which is the proportion of a capital gain that is taxable, was proposed to increase to 66.67% from 50%. The new inclusion rate applies to net capital gains exceeding $250,000 per year for individuals and to all net capital gains realized by corporations and most types of trusts. The draft legislation relating to the inclusion rate increase is still a proposal and has yet to be passed into law.
