My free, online talk "How to Get Started on a Cultural Game" is happening on Thursday, November 14, 2024 10 - 11 a.m. Pacific / 1 - 2 p.m. Eastern Thanks to the Pixelles for the opportunity! From the perspective of the Writer/Narrative Designer of Rooster, a point-and-click narrative adventure about the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Intended Audience For anyone in game development with a great idea for a culturally-based game, needing encouragement, reassurance, and validation, even just to get started. So I have this slide in my upcoming Pixelles talk, “How To Get Started On a Cultural Game” (the doubled length 2.0 version from the Full Indie Summit), of 4 cultural games I really loved and would recommend. There aren’t that many for me falling into these exact 3 parameters. I make no apologies for not playing certain games or watching certain shows or reading certain books or seeing certain movies because there is only so much time in the day. These are cranberry-orange and ham-cheese waffles I made for my family this morning. I listened to 1.5 episodes of the Code Switch podcast. I may or may not include this picture in my slides. My talk is online and free Thursday Nov 14 2024 10 - 11 am Pacific / 1 - 2 pm Eastern https://lnkd.in/ekNgUCxz [IMAGE DESCRIPTION: there are 24 golden-brown muffins in muffin trays atop a glass stovetop beside an oblong serving plate of 14 square waffles, stacked in two piles of 7 each.]

I've been working on my slides and adding in the "rules" for working on cultural games and how to support creative leads among other things. If you saw the Full Indie Summit version of this talk, this is twice as long since I've got way more to say and expands on some of the questions asked. Thanks to Rebecca Cohen-Palacios and the Pixelles for the opportunity and platform! It's Thursday, Nov 14 2024 Online | Free | 10 am - 11 am Pacific / 1 pm - 2 pm Eastern https://lnkd.in/gXzAHW6g

We recently held our first-ever Pixelles Alumni Reunion with past participants of our Game Incubator (now Game Making) program. It was amazing to reconnect and learn what everyone has been up to these past couple of years. Big THANK YOU to Warner Bros. Discovery Access Canada for their generous support! We hope this is the first of many Alumni Reunions to come.
