  • 🚨 New Report Alert! 🚨 "We were seen, but were we heard?” Meaningful Refugee Participation at the Global Refugee Forum 2023, an Assessment by R-SEAT. The second Global Refugee Forum (GRF) took place in Geneva from December 12-15, 2023. This GRF saw a significant increase in the number of participants with lived experience of forced displacement, from: 🔹 2019: 72 participants  🔹 2023: 328 participants Despite this increase, we must ask: Was refugee participation in the GRF 2023 truly meaningful? This report assesses the quality of refugee involvement and offers policy recommendations to all stakeholders, including UNHCR, states, NGOs, INGOs, and refugees themselves, for enhancing meaningful participation 🔗 Download the full report and join us in enhancing meaningful refugee participation for more effective and improved global refugee responses! 🌍 https://bit.ly/3Ssb8a0 #GRF2023 #RefugeeParticipation #RSEAT #UNHCR #Refugees

  • Every year on December 10, we commemorate Human Rights Day, marking the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) — a revolutionary global commitment to dignity, freedom, and equality for all. This year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” highlights the transformative power of human rights as a pathway to solutions — serving as a preventative, protective, and empowering force for good. Under Article 14, the UDHR affirms the right of individuals to seek and enjoy asylum from persecution, laying the foundation for later frameworks like the 1951 Refugee Convention, which remains a cornerstone for protecting refugees and their rights worldwide. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing meaningful refugee participation in shaping global policies and ensuring that the principles of human rights extend to all — because our shared future depends on protecting the rights of the most vulnerable, right now. #HumanRights #Refugees #RSEAT #UDHR75

  • 📢 Support Kakuma's Refugee Filmmakers Photofilm for Change is a refugee-led organization based in Kakuma refugee camp, dedicated to addressing social issues through film. Their mission includes producing impactful films and providing a platform for other refugee artists to workshop and showcase their work. • Yesterday marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a day observed since 1981 to raise awareness and drive action against gender-based violence. It also launched the UNiTE campaign—16 days of activism leading up to December 10, International Human Rights Day. Women and girls make up half of the world’s forcibly displaced population, yet they are disproportionately affected by the vulnerabilities of displacement, facing double discrimination as both refugees and women. Displacement exacerbates gender inequalities at every stage, deepening the challenges and risks women and girls endure. To address these injustices, it is crucial to develop inclusive, gender-sensitive refugee policies that center the voices and experiences of refugee women and girls. #RefugeeWomen #Refugees #RSEAT
