Canada is on a transformative journey to reach net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050. Wind and solar energy, supported by energy storage, will power much of this journey. That’s because wind and solar are the lowest-cost sources of new decarbonized electricity. We will need to increase our wind and solar capacity 10x by 2050, so we need to act now, and we need to act together.

Ever wonder what it would be like to work as a wind turbine technician, 500 feet in the air? Or to work as a solar farm electrician, harnessing the power of the sun, and using it to charge a massive on-site battery system? CanREA’s Clean Energy Career Profiles asks Canada’s renewable energy and energy storage workers what they do, how they got into this line of work, and what advice they have for others looking to work in the #renewableenergy and #energystorage sector. In 2024, CanREA spoke with CanREA’s Director of Operations, Mathieu Côté, to find out more about his occupational journey. Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) reposted this
The Oneida energy storage plant is a testament to what can be built when Indigenous Businesses are enabled through increased access to capital - via the Canada Infrastructure Bank, loan guarantees, or tax credits. When Canada introduces and passes the #CleanElectricity #InvestmentTaxCredit more Indigenous companies and communities will have access to the capital they need to lead in #RenewableEnergy and #EnergyStorage projects like this one. Huge kudos to Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) members Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation and Northland Power Inc. for this great profile piece about their powerful project.

Why are so many Canadians going solar? In Canada, solar (PV) systems installed on residential, commercial and industrial rooftops are currently providing 1.2 GW of solar power directly to those homes and businesses. Canadians added 86 MW of new on-site solar in 2023 alone, according to CanREA’s annual data report. In addition to the environmental benefits, generating your own energy from the sun through solar photovoltaics (PV) increases your energy independence, saves you money on your electricity bills and, when paired with energy storage, can help ensure you are prepared in the event of a power outage or natural disaster. Learn how to plan your solar installation with CanREA’s Go Solar Guide 2024, available for free here: https://ow.ly/lJ4e50SIAqr.
