  • Check out this video of one of our recent projects. https://lnkd.in/gpXHjsqy Is your organization or community group looking to build community through lived experience stories? Let's talk. An afternoon of storytelling about the lived experiences and cultural stories that affirm the capacity and resilience of newcomers and displaced peoples. This workshop style event included stories from women who immigrated to Manitoba over the years, and a chance to reflect on our own stories of strength and belonging. Led by Patlee Creary, Ph.D, Cate Friesen, and Amna Burki of Winnipeg, who all work in the field of storytelling to build community and make change. • How are you coping today? The invisible burdens of these so-called "small hurts" can add up, so don't beat yourself up if you're feeling a little tender today. You do better at fostering resilience and emotional growth when you take the time to be mindful of how you are feeling so that you can take steps to come back to the center. We all need tools and strategies to help us regulate the stress, anxiety, and feelings of depression that repeated exposure to small and large hurts and transitions can bring. Here is one resource you can use to help you reframe and feel more centered. Check out my blog post https://wix.to/ozWF3At #newblogpost

  • Can you think of a time when you experienced or witnessed a subtle interaction that left a lasting impact? How did it make you feel, and what were the immediate or long-term effects? I can think of many interactions, yet what leaves a lasting impact is the way other people - people who are in a position to speak up, say or do something to redirect or challenge the behaviour - choose to ignore or excuse the what they hear and see. For me that's the hardest part to come back from. What sticks out for you on the topic of microaggression and microtraumas? Join our lunchtime conversation on Nov. 28 and visit our community space to join the conversation about and learning about microaggressions in the home and workplace. • Is it them, or is it all your head? We all experience microaggressions and microtrauma, though some are more impacted than others. The invisible burdens of these so-called "small hurts" can add up. But it's worth asking, "How am I communicating right now?" and "Am I giving myself time and space to let go of those small hurts so they do not define my next steps?" You do better at fostering resilience and emotional growth when you take the time to be mindful of communication blocks that cause hurt. We're getting ready for a special Mindful Lunch conversation with Robyn Penner Thiessen on Microaggressions and Microtraumas, during which we will uncover some of the subtleties of good communication practice. This blog article about listening blocks and cognitive reframing hints at some things Robyn and I will discuss on Nov. 28. Check out my blog post https://wix.to/VNvNP4f #newblogpost

  • If you work in a high-stress sector like education, social work, and health care, or if you are involved in student and campus affairs, lead diverse teams, or are responsible for stewarding workplace culture you know how important it is for us to create more empathetic, culturally competent, inclusive, and trauma informed spaces. Whether you agree or not, the human science tells us that the invisible burdens of the so-called "small hurts" can add up. It affects how we teach our children and determines how we interact with co-workers and strangers. So, how can we rebuild and repair? Let's talk about that. Join me for a lunchtime chat with DEI consultant, speaker, and leadership coach, Robyn Penner Thiessen on Thursday November 28 at noon (central time). #WinnipegDEI #WinnipegBusiness #WinnipegLeaders https://wix.to/L2Ty3sH
