🌍🔋 Lithium has been added to NATO's list of defence-critical raw materials! 💪💡   Lithium plays a crucial role in the development of advanced defence technologies. Its high energy density and light weight make it essential for the production of batteries used in military equipment such as aerial vehicles, submarines and missiles. The inclusion of lithium in the NATO list underlines the importance of this raw material for the development of defence systems.   The availability and security of supply of these commodities is essential to maintaining NATO's technological edge and operational readiness. Disruptions in supply could adversely affect the production of critical defence equipment. Identifying these key materials is NATO's first step towards building more stable and secure supply chains that are essential to the defence and security of NATO Partners.   This initiative is another sign that regional & independent raw materials supply chain are of utmost importance for Europe and North America.   https://lnkd.in/eunHArSW

Exciting news: Rock Tech Lithium has officially applied for funding through the Critical Raw Materials Fund (Rohstofffonds), managed by KfW—a €1 billion equity-like fund designed to strengthen Germany's access to critical resources. This strategic initiative marks a pivotal step in creating a more sustainable, resilient, and independent supply chain for vital raw materials. ✨ Next Steps: 🔍 A comprehensive due diligence process will be conducted by a leading global audit firm to ensure project feasibility and alignment with fund objectives. 🛠️ The investment decision will be made jointly by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF). 💡 Why This Matters: The Raw Materials Fund is a groundbreaking initiative to: 🌱 Reduce dependency on non-European suppliers by securing access to strategic raw materials. ⚙️ Support projects like our Guben Converter, which contribute to the long-term procurement of critical resources for production sites in Germany and the EU. 💰 Provide €50–150 million in equity investments per project. 🛡️ Operate independently of fiscal years or government changes, ensuring stability, continuity, and long-term vision. Our colleague Jannik Schmitz presented at the ITEL - Deutsches Lithiuminstitut GmbH Lithium Days 2024 to share Rock Techs’ view on Lithium recycling and the role the Guben Lithium Hydroxide converter can play. In the panel discussion that followed, he discussed with Richard Schalinski (itel), Christian Hying (Evonik), Dr. Tom Vöge (GRS), Dr. Adalbert Lossin (Aurubis), and Greg Pitt (Worley) what will be necessary for a European recycling ecosystem to emerge that can be globally cost-competitive. 🚨 Progress at Rock Tech Guben Lithium Converter Site! 🚨  With two major milestones achieved this week, the construction field of the Guben Converter is now close to completing site preparation by Q1 2025. Here’s what’s new:  🔹 Railway Connection Approved: The Guben site is now officially connected to Germany’s rail network, enabling smooth transportation of critical raw materials and supporting efficient logistics.  🔹 Gas Pipeline Relocation Completed: The ONTRAS gas pipeline has been successfully relocated, paving the way for full site readiness. These achievements mark significant progress in developing the Guben Converter site, a cornerstone of Europe’s emerging lithium supply chain.
