In B.C., the third Wednesday each November is set aside as a Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims—remembering those who have been killed or injured in often preventable road crashes, and the loved ones left to cope with sudden and unexpected loss or suffering. Here are a few facts about road crashes in B.C.: - Motor vehicle collisions are one of the leading causes of unintentional injury death across all ages in B.C. - Nearly 20% of traffic fatalities in B.C. happen in November and December - Speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving are the leading contributing factors for motor vehicle collisions - From 2018 to 2022, there was an average of 284 fatal victims per year involved in motor vehicle crashes in B.C. - An average of 284 people die each year in motor vehicle crashes.
