Chatting with Phil and Kenny is always a good time but I so appreciate them having me on their podcast, This Commerce Life. We spoke not only about Satya Organic but they gave me the opportunity to share a sneak peek of something we’re working on behind the scenes that will change the way beauty brands manufacture samples. Something that will help other small businesses fight micro plastics and reduce waste in the cosmetics industry. As I share with Phil and Kenny, this wasn’t about wanting to create a new business. I’m doing this because these solutions need to exist in the world and I’m thrilled to be creating something for all of the small businesses that need it. That’s what we do as Indigenous founders. We live by our values and we support others so they can do the same. https://lnkd.in/grzKX5Fq

“When I think about community, it’s intrinsic to us as {Indigenous} business owners. Without community involvement, there is no success and there is no joy in what you end up doing.” Thank you to CBC/Radio-Canada Unreserved and Rosanna Deerchild for inviting me to join her, Jenn from Cheekbone Beauty Cosmetics INC Beauty and Jeff from Animikii Inc. I love being able to share my journey as an Indigenous entrepreneur and why I believe there is no reason why other Indigenous people can’t create a business that aligns with their values. Creating a business that puts community and our planet above all else is why I get out of bed every morning. In the beginning, I created Satya to be a natural, organic alternative to steroids to treat my baby girl Esme’s eczema. 10 years later, I’m still running my business for my daughter but now it’s so that she can have a better planet to grow old on.

Small business owners can’t do it alone - it takes a community. And I am very grateful to have @Trade & Invest British Columbia in the Satya community. They just published this amazing article about Satya, our big win at the BC Export Awards in November, and the journey to where we are today. Including that part where we landed in over 1100 Shoppers Drug Mart stores across Canada in 2023 😉 They were instrumental in Satya getting into Hong Kong markets and, more recently, the We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort in Arizona, following a trade mission with the knowledge and support of Team Canada. Always here to share our experience and answer your questions if you’re interested in working with them in 2024! https://lnkd.in/dwSBTcSH

Last week, Satya Organic was named Indigenous Exporter of the Year at the Business in Vancouver 2023 BC Export Awards ✨ The BC Export Awards are the province’s most prestigious awards paying tribute to the success and innovative approaches of BC export companies. The awards program annually seeks out BC’s top exporters and honours them for their achievements in 8 categories. The Awards are presented by Business in Vancouver, the Ministry of Jobs, Trade and Technology and the BC Division of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters with support from annual sponsors. It is the oldest awards ceremony of its kind in Canada. Conceived in 1982, the program has recognized over 300 companies since its inception, reflecting the growth and diversity of BC’s economy over the past 30 years. This was a HUGE milestone for our small business and it would not have been possible without the love and support from our community.
