Attention Hairstylists and Apprentices! Key Update from Skilled Trades Ontario / Métiers spécialisés Ontario Here’s what you need to know about the new Written Exam Fee Waiver:   - Starting January 1, 2025, completed apprentices attempting the hairstylist certification exam for the first time won’t need to pay the $150 exam fee upfront. - The fee will only apply if a second attempt at the exam is required. - This fee waiver was introduced in December 2024 under the Working for Workers Act Six and applies to apprentices who completed their program on/after January 1, 2025. - Be sure to check your PCoQ confirmation notice for booking details and eligibility. This change is a game-changer for those entering the hairstyling trade—make sure to take advantage of this opportunity! Good news for Niagara Region students entering the skilled trades! Thanks to a generous $500k donation from The Canerector Foundation, Niagara College is offering a new scholarship program and mentorship initiative for students pursuing high-demand skilled trades. #onpoli Beginning in September 2025, the Canerector Scholars Program will award scholarships to over 50 students across a five-year period, providing crucial support to those entering the skilled trades. Each scholarship offers $1,000 per college term, alongside a $1,000 graduation award. Beyond financial assistance, the program features mentorship and leadership development through the Canerector Skilled Trades Dean’s Council, which aims to foster both professional and personal growth for the students involved.
