The researchers found that when neurologists and neuro-radiologists used the tool with their own assessments, it increased their accuracy in diagnosing all 10 types of dementia by more than 26% compared to when they worked without the tool. Using 100 random cases, 12 neurologists were asked to diagnose each case and provide a confidence score ranging from zero to 100. The scores were then averaged with the probability scores generated by the AI tool to calculate an AI-augmented neurologist score. My biggest concern is what happens after - is our healthcare system ready for this influx of patients that may develop a type of dementia down the road.
