From job training to mental health resources and warm, nutritious meals, the support Veronica received helped her regain her confidence and take steps toward independence. • Today on National Housing Day, as co-chair of the Ontario Women’s Coalition of Shelter and Supportive Housing Care Providers, Street Haven proudly organized this important event at Queen’s Park. The day began with a press conference highlighting the critical need for increased investments in affordable and supportive housing for women. Following this, we joined in the gallery for the Question Period, where the Opposition Party raised key housing issues. Attendees then participated in a Lunch and Learn session led by advocacy expert Kim Wright, offering valuable strategies for effective housing policy advocacy. Throughout the day, we stood alongside supportive and affordable housing organizations, shelters, homelessness advocacy groups, and community activists, reaffirming that housing is a fundamental human right. A special thank you to MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam, their team, and fellow MPPs for hosting us, and to our coalition partners for their dedication. Together, we remain committed to bold actions and meaningful investments to address the housing crisis in Ontario. #NationalHousingDay #AffordableHousing #SupportiveCareHousing #HousingFirst

Despite having grown up in Ontario, I never had an opportunity to attend the #RemembranceDay ceremony in City of Ottawa / Ville d’Ottawa . I was fortunate to attend the ceremony this year which also included commemorating the Royal Canadian Air Force. The parade of veterans and cadets were colourful. The attendees included Gov. General Mary Simon , Silver Cross Mother M. Anderson, Assembly of First Nations to name a few. Wreathes were laid at the National War Memorial . I Had an opportunity to shake hands with Justin Trudeau Prime Minister of Canada 🇨🇦 (along with others) and meet Veteran and hero Wallace. Ottawa was lit up with digital falling Poppies on Parliament Hill and National Arts Centre. the NationaI War Memorial is haunting at night with the Tomb of Unknown soldier adorned with poppies of attendees and wreathes. I also visited the Canadian War Museum and visited Memorial Hall and Moriyama Teshima Architects Hall . This year served as a powerful reminder of those who have served and those who have lost their lives serving " #Lestweforget ".

It's been a very busy last 2 weeks in which the overarching theme has been the urgency for equitable investments in Women's housing and other services. Last week, I co-presented with Cory Roslyn Elizabeth Fry Society of Northeastern Ontario on the Ontario Women's Coalition of Shelter and Supportive Housing Providers at the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness 2024 conference in Ottawa. We discussed the need for greater investments in #womenservices including #affordablehousing and supportive care. Discussions with other presenters and participants revealed the significant and widespread underinvestment in women's services across Ontario and Canada. Shortly, I was fortunate to have participated on Nov. 3rd Street Haven At The Crossroads annual Walking Home Walkaton 2024 to raise funds and raise awareness on the need for more supports esp. around affordable supportive care housing for women in need. CTV News and CBC coverage helped to raise attention to the public on this important issue. Speakers included at Sheryl S. board, chair MPPs, Kirsten Wong-Tam and Jessica Bell. The event was filled with energy, excitement and passion, and as clients, donors, staff and volunteers walked around the Toronto downtown with supporters honking as they drove by. the dogs were a great addition! Highlights included at Yonge Dundas Square with donated billboard and spoken word, poet, @TracyJPoet. support for this cause still welcome https://lnkd.in/gviVY7E5
