Reliability: this is not just a product quality. Test tools and methods require evaluation as part of a good test strategy. The lower the reliability the less we trust the testing results.

At TestLauncher, we take testing very seriously because when we zoom out of the developers' lens for a smidgen, we know a single bug can cause (to someone or some business): - job loss - lawsuits - missed deals - death(s) - misdiagnosis - financial loss - mental distress - demotions - missed life or career opportunities - data loss - security and privacy breaches - divorce - family issues - insolvency - wasted time - revenue loss - fire - loss of crops - and so on... Please repost to remind all of us that our customers and users are what matters. ♻

A few scientific reasons why engineering teams have difficulty finding their own mistakes: Self-Perception Bias: We tend to view ourselves in a more favourable light, often leading to a bias where we overlook our flaws and mistakes. This is known as the self-serving bias, where successes are attributed to our abilities and failures to external factors. Cognitive Dissonance: When we make mistakes, it can create a sense of discomfort or dissonance because it conflicts with our self-image. To resolve this discomfort, we may rationalize or downplay our errors rather than acknowledge them. Emotional Investment: We are often emotionally invested in our actions and decisions. This emotional attachment can cloud our judgment, making it harder to objectively assess our behaviour. Familiarity and Blind Spots: We are more familiar with our thought processes and behaviours, which can create blind spots. This familiarity can lead us to overlook mistakes that might be obvious to an outside observer. Social Comparison: We frequently compare ourselves to others, which can lead to a focus on their mistakes rather than our own. This can create a sense of superiority or denial regarding our shortcomings. Feedback and Reflection: We may not seek or receive feedback as readily when it comes to our actions compared to how we observe others. Constructive criticism is often easier to give than to receive. At TestLauncher we help our clients get out of their own way.

🤓 Psychology research has consistently shown that people often have difficulty identifying their own mistakes due to several cognitive biases and limitations. 📚Here are some key insights: • Overconfidence Bias: People tend to overestimate their own abilities, including their capacity to accurately complete tasks or assess their own work. This can prevent them from noticing errors. • Confirmation Bias: Individuals tend to seek out and focus on information that confirms their pre-existing beliefs or conclusions, which makes it harder to recognize mistakes that contradict those beliefs. • Dunning-Kruger Effect: This phenomenon suggests that people who lack competence in a specific area are often unaware of their own incompetence. As a result, they may fail to see their own errors because they don’t have the knowledge or skill needed to recognize them. Connect with us to help your team release problem-free. 🙌
