  • "If a company cares about performance, they have to care about emotions." - Ethan Kross.   🎉 Award-winning psychologist at the University of Michigan and bestselling author of Chatter, Ethan Kross is set to release his groundbreaking new book "SHIFT" on February 4, 2025!   In his highly anticipated book "SHIFT", Ethan turns his attention to the question of emotions: what they are, and (more importantly) how we can use them to think, perform, and lead better. Debunking common myths (like the idea that avoidance is always harmful), SHIFT combines riveting stories with science-backed strategies to help readers turn emotions into powerful tools for success.   Early praise for SHIFT: ✨ “Ethan Kross has done something remarkable: he’s written a page-turner that’s grounded in science and filled with practical insights. If you think you can’t control what you feel, he’s about to make you think twice.”—Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Think Again and host of the podcast Re:Thinking.   ✨ “Ethan Kross presents a revolutionary guide to mastering your emotional life. With groundbreaking research, Kross dismantles persistent myths and offers a fresh perspective on harnessing our emotions as a source of strength." —Charles Duhigg, New York Times bestselling author of Supercommunicators and The Power of Habit.    👉 Ready to make your emotions work for you instead of against you? • 🤔 Have you noticed how public spaces like parks, libraries, and other community hubs are gradually disappearing? Americans are entering a "loneliness epidemic" where digital progress has brought us closer online but is pulling us apart in real life.    📰 In Derek Thompson's February cover story in The Atlantic, he draws on his extensive reporting to explore "The Anti-Social Century" and the societal problems the pandemic has left us with. But there's hope💡. A "social century" is possible with the rise of social hubs like independent bookstores hosting events and board-game cafes! 🎲   🌟 Derek is a long-time staff writer at The Atlantic and the author of the forthcoming book Abundance and national bestseller "Hit Makers".    "Life is just a long set of 15-minute blocks. The way we spend our minutes is the way we spend our decades." - Derek Thompson.   🧠 Remind yourself that small actions—like starting a conversation on a train, hosting a dinner, or investing in community spaces—can cascade into big cultural changes.   👉 Read the full story here: https://shorturl.at/l4GNX

It's official. My probationary period at The Lavin Agency is over! 🎉 🕊️ Three months fly by when you 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 enjoy the work you do and the people you do it with. From Thanksgiving lunches to election night watch parties, Lavin has given me an awesome team, opportunities and an environment where I'm on my toes, learning something new every day. When I first learned about The Lavin Agency (fully sober—inside joke for anyone who’s read my bio on our website), I couldn’t wait have a crack at their social media. I mean, seriously—getting to work with some of the world’s most brilliant minds and amplifying their voices? How freaking cool is that? 📣 We have 𝙗𝙞𝙜 things planned for The Lavin Agency's social media in 2025 (check out the little bts sneak peek below!) and I truly cannot wait to get it started. BIG thank you to Alethea Ng for guiding me and helping me settle into my new role. I hope you're ready for more "cap(tion) checks" and clocking my ESL grammar even more in 2025 (you've probably already noticed a few mistakes by now).🫡 💌 To the rest of the team, Dylan Lavin and Kshiteej Sawhney, thank you for being so welcoming and accommodating. 🌟 A special shoutout to Alex Shifrin, CM. In the short time you were with us at Lavin, your creativity and fresh perspectives were inspiring, and I learned so much from your approach and insights. Thank you for sharing your expertise and setting such a high bar for leadership! 🤍 Two years ago I came to Canada and never expected to be where I am today. From fashion to social media to event marketing (and even climbing), it’s been a journey full of unexpected twists and so much growth. I’ve learned, failed, and succeeded, but what excites me most is that this is just the beginning. With exciting projects ahead (that I can't wait to share!), I’m looking forward to pushing boundaries, exploring new opportunities, and seeing where 2025 takes us all. 🫶

Good feedback feels nice—but is it really helpful?   Lavin Speaker Tessa West's TED Conferences Talk, “The Problem with Being ‘Too Nice’ at Work,” has been named one of the Most Popular TED Talks of 2024! 🎉   In her talk, Tessa (psychology professor at NYU and author of Jerks at Work and Job Therapy) explores how overly “nice” or sugarcoated feedback can unknowingly stall careers, preventing real growth and development. For feedback to truly help someone, it needs to have substance: specific, actionable insights that go beyond surface-level compliments. While “nice” feedback may feel good in the moment, it often leaves the recipient without a clear path forward, missing opportunities to reflect, adapt, and grow.   Ready to rethink your approach to feedback? Seven and a half years. That’s how much time you could gain back.⏳ In a recent CBS Sunday Mornings feature, actress and activist Jane Fonda and Lavin Speaker Ashton Applewhite an anti-ageism advocate, shared a powerful truth: older adults with positive beliefs about aging live an average of 7.5 years longer than those who see aging as decline. 📣 Ashton also mentions how having a good community built around art is the key to reclaiming those 7.5 years! Engaging in art classes, for example, fosters mental stimulation, physical activity, and creates deeper and meaningful relationships. 🎭 “Aging is the one universal human experience. It is the process of growth and self-knowledge that is a joy.” - Ashton Applewhite Let’s shift the narrative— celebrating the process of becoming wiser and cherishing every moment of our precious journey. 🌟

  • "We are changing this art world, building on the unfinished work of our ancestors." - Sarah Lewis (Founder of Vision & Justice and Harvard Associate Professor) Sarah Lewis's bestselling book "The Unseen Truth" and her Vision & Justice Project are being proudly displayed at the Brooklyn Museum! 🏛️ In The Unseen Truth, Lewis uncovers a significant historical lie about race in America and offers a way to move forward. She recounts the Caucasian war—a struggle for independence in the Caucasus that coincided with the end of the U.S. Civil War—revealing that the origins of "Caucasian" weren't linked to whiteness at all. By showing how visual tactics obscured this history to perpetuate racial injustice, she urges us to confront and dismantle these constructs. Congratulations on this achievement Sarah! 👏
