The Ontario Genealogy Society was founded in 1961 and is the largest genealogy organization in Canada with 34 Branches and Special Interest Groups throughout the Province. The VISION of the Ontario Genealogical Society is to be recognized as the authority and leader in all aspects of Ontario related family history research, preservation and communication.   • POSTING OPENS OCTOBER 10, 2024 POSTING CLOSES OCTOBER 31, 2024 Part Time Business Development Officer Key Responsibilities: • Create strategies for member retention and growth; develop communications and events; work with the Board and Branch/SIG (Special Interest Groups) leadership to implement. • Design and manage membership drives, support Branches & SIGs in their local efforts to retain and grow membership. • Through regular outreach, cultivate and build effective networking relationships with Branches and SIGs, funders, donors, heritage organizations and libraries, as well as local communities and businesses. • Act as ambassador and, in collaboration with the Board President, act as a spokesperson for the organization; build OGS reputation as the ‘go to’ organization when questions around genealogy and local history arise (deliver key messages & facts). • Be the main point of contact for partners, donors, funders, government entities and public enquiries; develop and maintain a positive professional reputation. • Create and implement a marketing strategy for the organization to increase visibility (internally and externally) and increase funding options. • Create and implement a robust donor development program including building a donor base, developing an annual giving and donor recognition program. • Complete and submit annual grant applications within deadlines; research and apply for additional appropriate grants. • Monthly reports to the Board (updates on activities, project status, issues). • Manage marketing and administrative activities within an assigned budget. Submit budget information to the VP finance as required. • Function as team lead for office administrative activities. Qualifications: • Business degree or equivalent experience & sector knowledge. • 3 to 5 years working in the not-for-profit sector and with volunteer boards. • Proven ability to build, support and sustain internal and external business relationships. • Proven success in supporting membership development, grant writing and donor development. • Strategic thinker, collaborator, problem solver, able to bring vision to reality. • Focused, accountable, with strong ability to complete projects in a timely manner. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with particular emphasis on written/public documents. • Detail oriented with superior time management, project management, planning, and organizational skills. What we Offer: Details: Part time, 3 days per week, (21 hours) in office, occasional travel within Ontario Rate: $26 - $27/hour Other: Laptop will be provided, travel costs reimbursed per organizational policy Join Us!!   • Call for Speakers – OGS Seminar 2025 Heather McTavish Taylor, Seminar 2025 Organizing Committee   The Ontario Genealogical Society is excited to announce the upcoming one-day Seminar "Your Genealogical Legacy: Plan, Prepare and Share" to be held in London, Ontario on Saturday, May 31st, 2025. This Seminar aims to empower attendees with the necessary tools to begin the thoughtful process of planning and preparing their genealogical work for future generations.   We are seeking knowledgeable individuals who are passionate about finding ways to preserve their legacy and can present their ideas at our in-person event. We invite proposals for talks and workshops that inspire, educate, and provide practical methods for managing one's genealogical legacy.   Please submit proposals through the Seminar website at https://lnkd.in/eCxRMeaZ and by choosing the Call for Speakers in the main menu.  Any queries can be directed to ogsseminar2025@ogs.on.ca.    Compensation: Selected speakers receive an honorarium of $200 CAD for each talk or workshop presented. Deadline for Proposals: The deadline for the submission of speaker proposals is Sunday, October 20th, 2024 at 11:59 PM EST. Submission Guidelines: Submit a title and abstract for your proposed talk or workshop (250 words max). Include a brief biography highlighting your experience and expertise in speaking with groups of up to 100 people (150 words max). Specify the preferred format for your presentation (talk or workshop). Indicate your location (preference will be given to presenters within “an easy drive” of London, Ontario). Interested speakers are strongly encouraged to submit multiple proposals for 40-minute sessions. There is no limit to the number of proposals a speaker may submit.   We look forward to receiving your talk and/or workshop proposal submissions, and look forward to your thought-provoking contributions to help shape the legacy of genealogical work at our one-day Seminar in May 2025.

Teaghlach Gaelach: a Celebration of Irish Family History will be held virtually on October 26-27, 2024.
