TR Law’s 90-Year History: The 2000s At the turn of the century, "Thomson, Rogers" reached new heights in advocacy, taking on landmark cases that shaped legal history. Among these was Cowles v. Balac (2006) - widely known as the African Lion Safari case - which captured public attention. Further, the firm was instrumental in the landmark Residential School class action, that had a national spotlight. This pivotal case sought justice for survivors of Canada’s residential school system, addressing one of the darkest chapters in the nation’s history and paving the way for the use of class actions to address systemic injustices. Our history is full of moments that matter, so stay tuned for the next decade! #90TRLaw #FacesOfTRLaw

TR Law’s 90-Year History: The 90s As "Thomson, Rogers" entered the 1990s, the firm faced a pivotal moment in its evolution. Its growing strength in its plaintiff personal injury practice made it increasingly challenging to maintain a strong presence in insurance defence. The firm ultimately made a decision to shift its focus, moving away from insurance defence to concentrate solely on its core mission: advocating for plaintiffs in personal injury cases. Meanwhile, our family law and municipal law practices continued to grow and thrive. Watch this space as there’s more to come in our trip down memory lane! #90TRLaw #FacesOfTRLaw

This year, Thomson Rogers LLP celebrates 90 years of excellence. As part of the celebration, we’re taking a journey through our history, decade by decade. Let’s dive back in where we left off: the 80s. “Thomson, Rogers” as it was known back then, continued to prosper and grow. The firm had solidified its reputation in insurance law, gaining particular expertise in defending negligence claims against municipalities. Although Thomson Rogers initially focused almost entirely on motor vehicle negligence, by the 80s, its practice included real estate, municipal law, mortgage lending, corporate and commercial law, as well as professional negligence litigation and arbitration. By 1986, the firm expanded into family and matrimonial law with the arrival of Pat Schmidt, marking the beginning of another important practice area. Our story is still unfolding—stay tuned for more milestones. #90TRLaw #FacesOfTRLaw
