    CEO & Co-Founder @ Tidepool Games

Last weekend I attended XP Gaming Inc. & Signals. Alongside my co-founder Robert Baxter, we made new connections and visited with friends and saw some really amazing new games and interactive exhibitions. Thank you to everyone that took the time to chat with us and all of the publishers who met with us at the event. Our hearts are full and it was a pleasure representing Tidepool Games at this event. Thank you Loc Dao, Kristina Lao, Colleen Arndt, Debi Wong and DigiBC - The Creative Technology Association of British Columbia for organizing and hosting this fantastic event. We’re already looking forward to attending next year!

We have now filled this role. Thank you to all of the applicants for your interest in this role. We are so excited to share with you that we are hiring for our first position! Here are the details: Tidepool Games seeks a Concept Artist to join us for a two month contract. Are you interested in being the spearhead of visual conception for an original science-fiction fantasy IP?   Look and feel for this project are of vital importance. You will help develop and establish the aesthetics of the game including concept art, previsual game screens, and other visual material to help illustrate the game as a realized idea. This material will also be used to promote the game concept to potential investors and publishers. Transparency: We have been awarded funding for this project through the Canada Media Fund and funding is meant to support the conceptualization phase of our project, Nomad Stars. This means we have limited funding for this project right now. A permanent position is not currently available - meaning this is contract only. About this role: We are looking for an experienced Concept Artist who has spent time working in the games industry.  You have a deep passion for science fiction and fantasy and seek to create and craft new worlds in a collaborative environment. You are able to produce to a high standard of visual quality  You are experienced in using a variety of tools Experience with Unreal, ZBrush and Blender are a major plus You are excellent at communicating your vision and discussing reiterations.  You have a solid portfolio that demonstrates your skills. A little about Tidepool Games: Tidepool was founded in early 2024 and is currently a small scrappy and fun startup team.  The core values of the studio revolve around Collaboration, Courage, Clarity and being excellent to each other.  We are a fully remote team and currently work in PST. The position's ideal start time is late August and would end by the end of October. The total budget for this role is $9000 CAD. We value diverse perspectives and experiences. Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they can perform every job description task. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may come from a less traditional background. We may consider an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.

We want to extend our deepest sympathies to all affected by the studio closure at Timbre Games. We recognize the truly titanic effort of making games, and Timbre had a stellar team with an incredible culture crafting games to surprise and delight. In many ways the studio served as a paragon in an industry battered by closures and lay-offs. Our hearts are with you. We have worked with so many of you at other studios. To those affected, near and far, we want to offer our support and network of resources to help you in any way we can.

We have been quiet since our studio announcement because we have been busy. As a three month old studio, there is so much to do everyday! We thought we should take a few minutes to update you all on what we have been up to: We have been working on the prototype for our first game. While we can’t reveal what this game is yet, we will provide an update over the next little while. We are currently fundraising for our first project. For us, this means engaging conversations, writing applications and many (so-many) versions of our pitch deck. Fundraising has proven to be interesting, fun and a ton of work. We have enjoyed meeting all of the folks we have talked to so far and we're looking forward to meeting more of you. Feel free to reach out if you are a publisher/investor/VC and you’re interested in working with us on our original IP. With ideas swirling around in our brains, we are a very creative team. Often having conversations about the “what if’s” and “wouldn’t it  be fun” While we have many ideas, we’ll be the first to say that not all of them are good, some are great, and a few are absolutely amazing and must be made. Consequently, we have started working on the concept for our second game in a different genre than our first game. More to come on this game in the future. Stay tuned for more updates about our projects, when we will be hiring and other happenings as well.
