  • 🌈 Today is National Ribbon Skirt Day! 🌟 The ribbon skirt is a powerful symbol of Indigenous identity, resilience, and cultural pride. It represents the strength and beauty of Indigenous women and girls and their deep connection to their heritage and the land, while also representing the wearer's identity and diversity. This day was inspired by Isabella Kulak (pictured here), a member of the Cote First Nation in Saskatchewan, who faced discrimination in 2021 for wearing her ribbon skirt to a school event. Her bravery sparked a movement to honour the cultural significance of ribbon skirts. In response, Senator Mary Jane McCallum introduced Bill S-219, which became law in December 2022. The first National Ribbon Skirt Day was celebrated on January 4, 2023. This day is a powerful reminder to: 💪 Celebrate the strength and diversity of Indigenous women 🌎 Recognize and honour Indigenous traditions and culture 📖 Learn about the rich history of Indigenous expressions of identity 💡 Commit to ongoing reconciliation efforts #TrueNorthAid #Reconciliation #RibbonSkirtDay #Indigenous #Metis #Inuit #FirstNations #NationalRibbonSkirtDay

  • The winter solstice is Saturday, December 21st and marks the day of the year when the earth is tilted farthest from the sun. 🌞 This calendar date has been revered by cultures globally 🌎 for centuries. Indigenous people in Canada continue to honour the patterns of the natural world during this season. In this short video, Elder Wilfred Buck explains what the winter solstice means in the Cree tradition. https://lnkd.in/eM3Ve3sy

  • #ThrowbackThursday to the incredible Awaken the Canoes project, supporting communities and peoples from across Coastal British Columbia! This year, All Nations Paddles Up delivered a canoe program for young women aging out of care, their support teams, and Indigenous female mentors while continuing to run their canoe journeys for young men. In total, five canoe pulls and tribal journeys took place in 2025! Reflecting on the impact of this initiative fills us with gratitude and pride. Each year, this project engages in traditional practices and builds cultural confidence. 🌟 Over the years, their return has been a testament to the grassroots, Indigneous-Led community-level difference we’re making together with All Nations Paddles Up. Here’s to what we’ve accomplished—and what’s yet to come! 🙌 #AwakenTheCanoes #YouthEmpowerment #CulturalRevitalization #TrueNorthPride
