  • Choosing the right clips for your deck can make all the difference in its long-term performance. Let’s break down the comparison between the industry-standard CAMO Edge Clip and our proprietary Gen II Clip for TruNorth grooved boards: CAMO Edge Clip: The trusted go-to for many in the industry, this clip offers a strong, tight hold that keeps boards firmly in place. While it’s an effective solution, the trade-off for its strong grip is that it can lead to clip breakage when the boards expand or contract due to temperature changes. Plus, it comes at a much higher price point. Gen II Clip: Designed specifically for our grooved boards, our Gen II Clip provides a budget-friendly option that maintains structural integrity. The looser fit accommodates the natural expansion and contraction of the boards, significantly reducing the risk of clip breakage. The slight movement of boards is possible, but this helps prevent stress on the boards and clips, promoting long-term durability. Ideal Approach? Combine the best of both! For an ideal solution, we recommend using CAMO clips in the middle of your deck to hold the boards firmly, with Gen II clips used for the remaining areas. This method allows for equal expansion and contraction, making movement almost negligible while maximizing durability and minimizing potential breakage.

  • TruNorth Composites presents… 8 EASY STEPS TO KEEP YOUR DECK SQUEAKY CLEAN! We all know that cleaning a deck can be a tiring task, but it doesn’t have to be! We compiled these 8 simple steps to help you keep your deck looking pristine, well-maintained, and ready to show off to your guests! 1. Gather your cleaning supplies:🪣 Before starting, gather the following items: - Bucket - Dish soap - Broom - Soft bristle brush - Leaf blower (optional) - Garden hose or pressure washer with a fan tip nozzle - Rubber gloves - Source of warm water 2. Clear out the deck: 🪑 Remove all furniture and accessories off the deck. This will give you clear access to every part of the deck and prevent cleaning solutions from getting onto them. 3. Remove loose debris:🍃 Use a broom or leaf blower to remove any leaves, dirt, and loose debris from the deck. Pay special attention to the gaps between deck boards and corners where debris can collect. 4. Rinse the deck:🚿 Using a garden hose or a pressure washer, thoroughly rinse the deck to remove any loose dirt and prepare the surface for scrubbing. If you're using a pressure washer, use pressures less than 1100 PSI at 10” above the deck surface, using a fan tip nozzle to avoid damaging the capping of the boards. 5. Prepare the cleaning solution:🧴 Put a mixture of dish soap and warm water in a bucket. (See our Care & Maintenance Guide for a list of approved cleaning products) 6. Scrub the deck:🧹 Dip the soft bristle brush or broom into the cleaning solution then gently scrub the deck boards. Make sure to sweep in the direction of the grain to avoid damaging the surface. 7. Rinse again :🚿 After scrubbing, use the garden hose or pressure washer to rinse off the cleaning solution. Make sure to remove all soap residue, as it can leave streaks or a film on the surface. 8. Allow the deck to dry:☀️ Let the deck air-dry completely before placing furniture and other objects back in place to prevent staining due to “environmental blushing” caused by moisture getting trapped between objects and the deck boards underneath. Additional Tips: - Use a plastic-tip shovel and undyed-melting salt to take care of the snow in the winter - For TruNorth Decking purchased before February 1, 2017, please contact us for advice about cleaning your deck.
