About us

The Toronto Transit Commission has a rich history dating back to 1921. Since that time, the TTC has grown to become North America’s third largest transit system, providing 1.7 million customer journeys every workday, or around 540 million rides per year. The TTC has a proud record for providing safe, reliable transit. Operating across five distinct modes of transportation, the TTC has developed a reputation for excellence in the integration of those modes through well-proven design. A full-service operator, the TTC is capable of undertaking virtually every activity in-house via our 17,000 dedicated and professional employees. Toronto’s transit system should match the experience of living in such a city: a high quality, accessible network that understands what our customers need and delivers what matters most to them. The TTC is committed to delivering a world-class transit system.

  • 🌟 Employee Spotlight 🌟 Ed Magnaye – Technology Administrator, Special Constable Service Meet Ed Magnaye – he has taken his unique background in the military and technology to build a safer transit system for everyone. Ed joined the TTC in April 2024 as a Technology Administrator in Special Constable Service, seeking a job that aligned with his mission to help others. He uses his education in electronics engineering and experience as an Aerospace Telecommunications Technician at the Canadian Armed Forces to help keep Toronto's transit system safe. “After releasing from the military, I knew I wanted to join an organization that has a similar framework and TTC was the perfect place,” he said. In his current role, Ed implements and maintains technologies that support Special Constables in the field such as the Axon Body Worn Camera. Each successful project brings him a sense of accomplishment and contributes directly to public safety. “In the short time I have worked here, I can say great things about TTC. The department and my colleagues made my transition to the workplace enjoyable,” he shares. “The role I play in improving experiences for Special Constables and creating a safer public transit system is extremely rewarding and fulfilling.” When he’s not at work, Ed says he is still a “gearhead at heart”, tinkering with mechanical parts and customizing cars and motorcycles.

  • 🌟 Employee Spotlight 🌟 Alexandra Nicastro – Administrative Assistant, Wheel-Trans Alexandra Nicastro’s passion for transit and accessibility shines through her work at the TTC. Inspired by her parents, who both worked in transit, Alexandra initially joined the organization in 2017 as a summer student in Revenue Operations. She also held the roles of Summer Student in the Project Management Office in 2019, Drawing Coordinator in Signals/Electrical/Communication in 2021, and now, Administrative Assistant in Wheel-Trans. Her daily responsibilities—managing Board reports, coordinating the Advisory Committee on Accessible Transit (ACAT), and supporting senior management—reflect her commitment to making transit more accessible. Through her role, she not only supports the smooth operation of transit services, but also promotes inclusivity, ensuring that Toronto remains a vibrant and accessible city for all. “It’s fulfilling to contribute to positive change,” she said. “I have the opportunity to listen and learn from individuals with disabilities or accessibility challenges. Working with ACAT has helped me look at the world differently, allowing me to be more compassionate and mindful in public spaces.” Alexandra has a bachelor of arts in women's studies and criminology and is working toward a masters in adult learning and community development, both of which contribute to her mission to create meaningful change.

  • Today, we come together with the City of Toronto to recognize Transit Worker Assault Awareness Day. The day brings attention to the abuse and assault that transit workers, including TTC employees, face every day on the job. The safety and well-being of our employees remains our top concern and throughout the year, we have taken numerous steps to help protect and support them, including protective barriers on all TTC buses and de-escalation training for over 9,000 frontline employees. While we have seen a significant decrease of 41% in reported offences since January 2023 – even one assault or threat is one too many. We’re committed to developing further plans to protect our frontline workers and build a safe and secure transit system for everyone.
